What would an average desktop computer cost? One that runs FSX fairly decent.
I just built a new computer sans monitor and I could have kept it right around $1000 if not for the two SSDs I splurged for. FSX was not the sole reason for my computer though so I had other criteria. It would have been possible to get that below $1000, too, if you're willing to go for non-namebrand components. Also, look at the big name makers for their new i5 computers to get an idea of costs. Not cheap but then again it's never been cheaper ;)

Alright then I will probably give it a miss. Does look nice outside but I never bother with externals. Im still flying NGX in the default colours. If I had space in my house I would definately by a big desktop PC and some massive monitors. I like the idea of being able to easily change out graphics cards for better ones etc. However I dont so I just make do with a good laptop.

I move far too much to have desktops. I keep having to sell them

Makes sense to have a lappy when you always have to keep moving.

Yep. My little lappy has quite the punch in it. Runs the NGX really well

How does your laptop run FSX well?

lol jayflies look at her specs. I know how you feel when your system limits you to get in to that pit :). Save some and buy a nice desktop.

I wasted years flying flight sims on average machines. Then one day I thought; if I am going to spend any more of my short life doing this damn hobby I want to be doing it on top of the range hardware. I am glad I made the decision, I spend less time frustrated and more time being truly impressed by these new breeds of flight simulator. Running NGX, RoF or DCS A10C at top settings is truly an impressive experience! So, get the best you can afford!

Silly Rabbits. laptops are for kids homework
I move around a lot. Like twice a year and a laptop is a lot more practical than a desktop for me. My laptop was £990. Not sure what the exchange rate to US$ is at the moment

According to what NGX (not the pmdg :) ) has posted she is getting around 25-30 up in the air do not remember what was it on the ground. And she has lotsa add ons.

I get around 25-30 in the air with the Airbus X in VC. The PMDG NGX in VC It jumps a little but I get anything between 18-27. I took a nice little screenie of the flughtdeck of the NGX on my laptop. I'll post it in the PMDG and the Mobo's, Ram, CPU's and other hardware forum tomorrow.
