Saving Flight Doesn’t Save Everything

Featured Replies

So far I’ve been extremely happy with this new plane as it is absolutely fabulous. One of the features is that it saves all the external equipment when you shut down. For example, when I deplane, I leave the following when I save the flight: Door OpenAir Stair DeployedDoor Open or ClosedGround Power Cart ConnectedAir Start Power Cart ConnectedAir Conditioning Cart Connected However, when I shut down FSX and then restart, and then load this saved flight, everything shows up the way I saved it, except that the Air Stairs are no longer extended so the pilot can climb up to enter through the open cockpit door? Have any of you tried this to see if this happens on your system, you can reproduce? This would seem like an easy fix, so I hope this minor problem can be addressed via Service Pack 1. Bill Clark

Hi Fred, I want to thank you for your help. I took a look at page 47 and you are correct, you need to save the panel state. However, then I look at page 48 and I see the following paragraph: I take this from paragraph 4 and 5 on page 48…. “Save/Load from FSX menu: You can also conduct save/load operations from the FSX menu. The PMDG 737NGX will intercept the load/save function and create both the FSX save file and the PMDG 737NGX panel save file for you for you using the name you select. You will then be able to load your flight and panel state from the FSX menu as well and the airplane condition as you just left it.” I assume all I have to do is save the aircraft to FSX, and then when I reload it, it pops up just the way I left it. It almost does everything, except the Airstairs. So I will try to save a panel as per page 47 to see if the results are different in the next day or so. Bill Clark

Ok, I did a standard panel save of the situation described above and I get the same issue, the air stairs do not show up extended when I load the saved panel. So this is a feature that is just not working as expected. Also, when I press Line Select 2R on the CDU under the PMDG Setup, I pull up the folowing panel listing under the "State Load Panel" and see the following panel states: <737 NGX Test.FLT (Saved when I created Flight that was saved)<Airstairs (Created and saved using just Panel Save feature)<NGX CLDDRK<NGX LONG<NGX SHORT The first panel entry was added when I saved the flight to FSX under the following name: 737 NGX Test. The panel state of this particular flight was automatically saved as a panel under <737 NGX Test.FLT. Then I created a new panel and saved it. Can anyone duplicate this issue? Bill Clark

Wel... If it makes you feel any better. Almost all 737 operators have removed them or order their 737s with no stairs... sad.png

Well your probably right...but as long as it still on the PMDG version I would like to ask if PMDG can fix it. Bill Clark

I think Bill has a right to bring up the air stairs issue, as PMDG may have omitted this variable from being saved in the flight/panel state, and would appreciate the feedback so that they can correct it if necessary in the Service Pack.I'm astounded by the ability of NGX to save things like the ground power or air conditioning, even chocks, in saved states. I was not expecting this at all, and I'm very grateful that PMDG went to the effort to make the panel saving feature this robust. But it still doesn't hurt to mention a few things that don't get saved, because there is still a chance PMDG will listen and correct them, assuming they are not FSX limitations. I have seen some other things not saved in the flight/panel state function that I thought would warrant a fix, and they are: 1. Flaps position not saved2. NO LAND 3 in amber on the EICAS3. Elapsed time in the clock not saved. Bottom line, the NGX saved state technology is close to perfection, it just needs to add a few small details like the ones i've listed and the Airstairs Bill mentions to make it really perfect!

Thanks A. J. Yeah, it may have been overlooked, or it maybe it is technically not possible, but I doubt it, given how close to perfection this plane actually is. I'm a 70 year old kid who likes to pretend when I fly, and this is my own private 737, and I want to park it next to my house like John Travolta does, so I will definately need those airstairs as a step ladder will not do. All kidding aside, I hope some one from the PMDG team will at least consider my request, and hopefully acknowledge it so I can at least say I tried. The three items you mentioned seemed important enough for consideration. This is one great addition to my stable of planes. Bill Clark

As they saving probably over 100 variables, there seems little reason why they all cannot be saved. if the list of variables is correct.I mention this, because at some time soon, I expect them to be issuing a SDK, which should, amongst other things, contain this list. see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\PMDG\PMDG 737 NGX\PanelState\*.sav Geoff
