The best weather engine+textures program/bundle

Featured Replies

Hi! Having bought several top-notch airliners I am interested in owning some decent weather environment add-ons. However I am not sure what to choose: - REX 2.0 - has possibly the best graphics and weather engine included but this engine is not very good, download and installation files are huge and I am not sure if older graphic cards can handle its HD resolution textures well - ASE + XGraphics - of course ASE is the best weather engine for FSX but its XGraphics companion is the oldest such software on the market and thus I suppose it is significantly worse than REX and FEX - FEX - this is weather textures replacement software only and apparently on par with REX in that department but lacking any weather engine so I would have to buy also ASE. Addotionally FEX is not developed any longer. In sum I don't know what to buy to be satisfied flying mostly airliners in FSX on not so powerful rig.

ASE + REX. Rex for textures, ASE for weather

Do you think REX may be FPS friendly on rig with 4 GB RAM and 512 MB VRAM assuming I decrease REX settings?

So long as you don't use the HD REX textures then yes.

It's real simple lol REX + ASE and texture size default 1024 everything above is asking for problems and makes no sense or you like to have a zoom level all the time of 3.0 or more Rolling%20Eyes.gif

AFAIK REX 2.0 has 512, 1024, 2048 and 4096 resolution textures. Which of them are HD ones?

2048 and 4096 are HD, but you can use the HD and define in the config just the size of 1024 :-)

As mentioned earlier, there is no real point in using the HD textures unless you are taking screenshots

OK so if I set 1024 texture resolution in REX 2.0 it will still look fine and run smoothly on my rig?

Should do. My laptop runs them at 1024 fine

They are all great products. You will not be disappointed. Personally I use ASE with FEX and the clouds are so realistic it puts another total dimension into flight simming. Best regards,Jim

Great. So now I buy ASE and configure it. Tomorrow I will go along REX 2.0 because I need plenty of time to download that giant! Big%20Grin.gif

Yep. Don't forget the Overdrive expansion pack.
