August 23, 201114 yr Hello Gents, For reasons I won't bore you with now I had to wipe my drive so as long as I was at it, I installed the 64 bit version. It come with its ownh SP! pre-installed. Do I also need to download the SP! and 2 we have all used until now? Thanks,Grtandpa
August 23, 201114 yr I think the SP1 you refer to is the Service Pack for Windows7. That has nothing to do with the SP1 and SP2 for FSX. Joe Brown
August 23, 201114 yr But yes, you need to install SP1 after FSX and SP2 or you can purchase the addon Acceleration which has SP1 and SP2 included. Best regards,Jim
August 24, 201114 yr "Service Pack" is just a term for a collection of fixes, updates and enhancements rolled into one installation package to make it quicker and easier to install them. They're numbered sequentially, in the event that multiple service packs are issued during the life of a product. So far, only one Service Pack has been issued for Win7, but there will likely be at least another one, maybe even an SP3. Service packs can be released for any software product, such as Windows itself, Flight Simulator, Office, or some non-Microsoft product. Usually, a new version (like going from version 5.0 to 6.0, or from the 2008 edition to the 2010 edition) introduces new features, while SP's are focused on fixes. There are some exceptions though, like the DX10 preview mode of FSX SP2 or the new security and wireless features that popped up in Service Packs Windows XP. Like version numbers, separate service packs for different products have no relation. You can use Office 2007 and FS 2004...just as you can use Windows XP SP3 while running FSX SP2. -
