ASE SimConnect Issue

Featured Replies

Hello all, I've searched out the posts here and actually found something dating back to 2007; however, it really doesn't cover my issue. My current problem is that I want to get ASE to run on a second laptop using a wireless connection. I feel I have followed all the steps in the instruction manual but there is still a problem and it will not connect. I have FSWide running and it is not giving me any problems so I know the connection is good. When I start ASE it gives me the following message. SimConnect client SP2 not found I have installed the three SimConnect programs I found on the FSX Deluxe and Acceleration CD's. The instructions said to test your simconnet connection using the AI Traffic.exe in the SDK files. I ran it and received an error message which said something to the effect of not configured for side-by-side something-er-other? I will be more then happy to get the error message if it would be helpful. Can anyone help me out, I'm sure it must be a simple mistake on my part but cannot figure out what I have done wrong.

Okay I was able to overcome that problem. It turns out I was installing the entire SimConnect instead of the Client. The problem I have now is when I start ASE I get a new message: Could not load FSX SimConnect SP1 or SP2. I did the AI Traffic test and it connected perfectly. Does anyone have an idea what might be going on here? Should I try to re-install the SimConnect package from the FSX CD's again? The instruction manual says to check a number of registries one of which is "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HiFi\ASE\FSXMyDocsPath"; however, I do not see that entry in the registry. All the other entries are there and correctly pointing at the FSX host computer.

Hi, From the FSX Disk you should install the SDK and run SimConnect.msi From Microsoft you should install SDK1A and run SimConnect.msi Then do the same with the Acceleration Disk to install SKD2 and simconnect. Re-boot your computer. Run ASE and see if it asks you to browse to your FSX location on the server and to your Application Data folder on the server. Also make sure FSX was never installed on the client computer.

No problem, I'll follow those instructions as soon as I get back from taking the kids to practice. I am uninstalling the SDK I pulled from the FSX Disk 1 and Acceleration Disk. I have downloaded FSX SDK sp1a from the MSFS website. Should I uninstall the SimConnect Client too? I did get it to connect to FSX using the test mentioned in the manual page 56 so as far as I can tell it is running just fine.

Hi, No, leave SimConnect installed and just re-install over the top.

Okay I did all of the instructions and no more error messages. It did not ask about my folders when I started ASE; however, I had FSX running before starting ASE and sure enough "ASE weather updated ..." was the message I received. Thanks for the help! Changing subjects was there ever a demo version of X-Pax released to "try before buy"?

Edward Smoker Sr.

Hi, Excellent! But, sorry no Demo of X Pax was ever programmed.

Well that's alright, Jim. If I can take up just a few more moments of your time I have one more question. Should I start ASE on the client computer using the main ASE shortcut or should I use the "ASE SimConnect SP1 Only" shortcut? I'm sure the answer is ASE but would rather ask the expert. Thanks again,Ed

Assuming your FSX installation is updated to SP2 or Acceleration, you should run the ASE shortcut. The other shortcut is for those FSX sp1 installations.

Hi, Just to add: You should have used the SP2 SDK also to install SimConnect SP2 so use the normal shortcut as stated above.

Hello- I also have been trying to run ASE on a laptop to connect with my main rig, but have not been having much success. I have Windows XP on the client and Windows 7 64 on the main rig (server). I installed SDK from the Deluxe DVD and then updated with SP1a and the Acceleration SDK from the Acceleration disk. I did this on both computers. I modified the SimConnect.cfg and .xml to the same IP address. I have set up the server to share the necessary files, and I designated the shared path when I installed ASE on the client. I don't get any error messages when I start ASE on the client. I had installed WideFS and have a connection between the computers. However, when I run the AI Traffic test from the client, it doesn't connect. I know I have a network connection between the computers because I can load a flight plan from my server computer into ASE that is running on the client. But I can't get ASE to connect with the server computer even with WideFS running. I also know I don't have a connection because when I try to lock to FS position within ASE, nothing happens. Any suggestions on something else to try? I'm wondering if this has to do with having XP on the client and W7 on the server. Thanks, Don

Hi, See if both computers belong to the same Workgroup. The default names have changed from XP to Win 7. Yes, the key is to first get that AI Traffic utility to work. Don't look at anything with WideFS. Did you set up and place those 3 files that you need? There is one for the client and 2 for the server. Then re-boot both computers--server first then client.

Thanks Jim! Your hunch that the .cfg, .xml and .ini files may not be in the right places was correct. I fixed that but still had problems until I changed the Address to my PC name instead of typing out the numeric IP address. Now all is well. Thanks again.
