Okay... so talk to me about the benefits of a SSD for FSX.

People like to run things maxed out, with lots of add-ons and for that you cannot use an off the shelf computer. We hope you enjoy your Pac Man while we enjoy FSX maxed out! Ying%20Yang.gif

I have my OS/FSX on my SSD and it works great. I put large scenery programs, like MegaScenery on my HD. I like it because I do not have to periodically defrag as you do not defrag SSD's. The SSD seems faster too loading FSX and the OS. Everything was super fast until I started installing software programs to my OS and addon's for FSX. As I recall, loading FSX was fast until I installed MyTrafficX. If you can afford one, get one. Best regards,Jim

Same here. add to that the IVAO MTL (massive collection of AI models and liveries) and load times can really become an annoying issue. I always comment out the IVAO MTL in the fsx.cfg when I'm not flying on line for that very reason

You are doing the same, but you haven't come out of the closet yet!!

Yes. Any addons with registry values will no longer work correctly as the values will point to the old location

The RAM you have is already a decent set. Try changing your settings to 2133 (9-11-10-28 1T) and see if that's stable.

Jim, I think you missed the point of my post not to mention my specs in my signature line. I was not commenting on whose is bigger or whether or not a store bought PC could outperform a custom made PC. My inference was simply that a store bought PC was more powerful than anything on the market at the time FSX was released. You most certainly could buy a very competent 2600k based PC from the store today which is amply suitable to run FSX very satisfactory for about $1,000. No system today can run FSX “maxed out,” at least not to my subjective standards or the standards of most but the overly enthusiastic on these forums. All I am saying is that we have turned the FSX hobby into an overclocking hobby to the point where many have lost perspective of what FSX is about. I am saying you do not have to have a $3k investment to enjoy FSX. I am saying that the benefits associated with most expensive hardware components are marginal to the actual (perceivable) performance gains of FSX. More specifically do not go out thinking you must spend $400 on an SSD and you will realize 5-FPS increased performance and glass smooth visuals at “maxed out” settings. Such belief is wrong and unnecessary and unlikely that any such performance will be gained. I am saying do not confuse what is necessary for FSX with what is necesary for overclocking results and benches. Most of what we talk about here is more related to the later.

Gary Andersen
