New Computer - Nick's Win7 and FSX Setup Guide?

Featured Replies

Is everyone using Nick N's Win7 and FSX setup guide? Is it necessary with the latest high end components? He says no overclock until Win7 and FSX installed and running properly????? Can't buy an overclocked system from a custom builder like Jetline or Maingear and then install FSX???

It is necessary, Bruce, along with many of Bojote's settings and suggestions. FSX can still bring my 4.8 gig proc to its' knees - even with those settings in place. As long as the proc stays cool - like under 60C, and the OC is done from the bios and tested 'green' with two or three tools at 100% loads and for 24hrs - you should be ok. Of course... at Denver, being at 7000'.... you might boil a little lower.... LOL.gif

It might work just fine but it might not.You are safer installing FSX while the system is downclocked.

Well, I probably will follow the guide. I was waiting for Flight to buy another pc, but couldn't wait any longer. Have not really been paying attention to Win7 and FSX. Not looking forward to overclocking at all! Have rarely looked in the bios and really know nothing about it. JP - My *office* is in my basement where it's cool even on the hottest days, and I've ordered the Corsair H100 cooler so I should be fine temp wise. We're at about 5400 ft here. 72 Triumph Bonnie?? I had 5 Nortons in the 70s! Just made this video a couple weeks ago. http://vimeo.com/26985246

Very Nice, Bruce! I'm not much into modern bikes, and I wouldn't have tried that trip with an old Norton... you'd have to push it back from about half-way! ... You must be a good mechanic! What's is this one, by the way?I've always thought that riding a motorbike was very much akin to flying; almost a continuous adrenaline feed, and the same sort-of sensations. Nice video.

My first long trip was in 73 on a 750 Norton Commando. My buddy and I went to Phoenix from Denver. 2300 miles total. My dealer (still a good friend) was very surprised we had no break downs! If he would have said something before we left, I probably wouldn't have gone. I don't do wrenches except for oil changes (which I just now finished). My current bike is a 2006 Sportster (in the vid). It's my 57th bike. It's the last HD Sportster with a carburator and a full length suspension. I can go up and down the mountains pretty well on it. I surprise a lot of guys while scaring myself!. Hypnotized.gif

Man you have guts!. 57 bikes.....?? Jeeeez..

At 73 I'm about done though. Am pushing the envelope! Hard to walk away after about half a million miles on them. Maybe just 1 or 2 more! LOL.gif Gotta go wash it now! The driveway finally has some shade.

Nice pic and vid bruce! 57 bikes...impressive. Always wanted to get one, but am too worried about others out there not paying attention. Especially with texting on phones nowadays!

Nice video! Nice country! If you buy from Jetline, they'll install FSX and tune it for you and you can avoid the guide from NickN and looking at your BIOS (but I do think everyone should become familiar with the bios and see all the things it is capable of doing to your system). Best regards,Jim

Hi Jeff and Jim -- Motorcycles are very dangerous today, as you say, Jeff. Don't do it. Wish I could quit, but every time I get on it I think I'm 30 and it feels sooooo good! Jim - I actually went to Micro Center, here in Denver, yesterday and bought all the parts. I paid them a build fee besides. I'll do Nicks guide and worry about how to do the over clock later. Hmmmm, Bob Scott is just 70 miles away and he's a member of our sim group heh-heh-heh! Bruce

As the topic is now motorcycling..... http://s118.photobuc...mview=slideshow I picked this up for $175..... just sold it a month ago..... What did you get, Bruce?
