San Francisco-KSFO

Anyone on here fly in or out of KSFO in the real world?Or lives nearby and observes what happens? I am curious about the real world runway usage.I've been there many times but mostly in the summer when it's usually 28L/R for most movements and 01L for some departures .I have landed on 19L just once. Today RC directed me to 19L and I was coming in from the east. The wind was well within limits for 28L/R which I used. The AI were landing on 01R I think. There are some RNAV procedures ifor 10L/R in my book of charts but I've never seen them used.I've never seen approaches to 01 either. I appreciate it's a wind issue but there are some terrain issues as well as runway lengths and I was just curious. I must have a listen to LiveATC when the wind favours other runways but if anyone knows anything it would be appreciated

i'd have to see a log, to see what the logic was. rc will always follow the ai. if the first ai is taking off, you're going to get that runway for takeoffs if rc sees an ai landing, the first ai it sees, you'll get his runway jd

Hello, yes all depending on wind and weights of course... Most Day;1L & 1R are mainly for domestic departures. 28L & 28R are for arrivals and International Departures. On occasions when the wind is just right, SFO will have the 1's as arrivals its amazing to watch. 19L & 19R are also a good time to watch departures. As soon as they lift off hard left turn down the El Camino Real... Hope this helps.

Thanks Will. That's just what I was looking for.I guess the winter months are better for seeing the other runways in use as the winds might be more variable and I've only ever been there betwen May and September.I'd like to see the 10s in use for landing in real life too! To JD,I was not actually worried about what happens with RC4 as I realise that the AI create the conditions. If the wind is 210/10 I go for 28L/R.As happens in real life.Even if the AI might have other ideas.

If you are an ASE user try using ASE with DWC off (global mode) and letting FSUIPC do wind smoothing if it is enabled. ASE can make weather at destination the same as your aircraft location enroute and during approach and not what the METARS are reporting. This affects ai in the pattern at the time RC assigns the runway. Please see the pinned topic and other ASE threads in this and their forum here here on AVSIM for updates. http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KSFO and enlarge the activity view to watch current operations. If you wish to watch a table of ai activity in fs in a separate window as you experiment with different weather install this free trafficlook.exe which runs off FSUIPC in both flightsim versions. It will show the assigned landing runway as the ai get close enough. You can just alt-tab to it, drag it to a separate monitor id dual-view, or run it over WideFS on a separate pc. If your monitor is big enough you can run FS in a Window and this in a separate window. It helps if scenery is designed to accommodate favored runways. RC need not be running for this 'exercise'. http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66136-useful-additional-programs/
