September 1, 201114 yr Hi,I have just got this RC4, and I read the quick start guide in the manual. I have copied a RL flight plan that I used to fly from; http://www.eurofpl.eu/finder#lowpanel Into http://www.simroutes.com/fb2/ParseRoute.aspx generated the route and downloaded an FSX flight plan. The route is: EGGD - EGGDBCN L9 ALVIN/N0140F050 DCT GST/N0120A045 DCT Which is a departure from Bristol UK, flight via airways to ALVIN and approach to Glouscester. After a couple of holds and missed approach at gloucester it is direct back to Bristol. I loaded the flight plan into RC as instructed in the manual. When I flew the flight, as I departed the Brecon VOR enroute for Alvin in the airway, I started to get instructions for a Radar vectored approach back at Bristol, thus missing out the part of my flight plan for going to Gloucester to practice holds and approaches. SO, have I missed something, and inserted my flight plan incorrectly? OR does RC4 not actually look at your flight plan? OR something else??Hope someone can help! Best RegardsRichard
September 1, 201114 yr Commercial Member as far as rc is concerned, eggd-eggd is a terminal enroute, and as soon as possible you are vectored into eggd approach. if you want to do a round robin, there is a tutorial, look at the ktpa-ktpa tutorial. that will help you figure out how to put in the flight plan jd JD Read my blog
September 1, 201114 yr Author OK thanks I will look into it, I did think there might be a way of cheating, ie planning EDDG to gloucester then on the go around requesting a diversion to my alternate (EGGD)..I was going to try that next time, I just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing some option in the setup. Anyway I will look into the tutorial. Thanks!
September 2, 201114 yr Author Ok so I read the tutorial, did not see anything that would help there,, then tried another local IFR route, also real world, instead of EGGD-EGGD I told the flight planner I would be landing at my intermediate airfield (although knowing I would actually go around and divert back to EGGD). Same result. Shortly after passing my first waypoint, I start getting vectored to the intermediate airfield. Radar contact ignored 2 waypoints in my flight plan, I suspect because they are within 30miles of my stated destination. ALSO, my route takes me from uncontrolled airspace into a Class A airway. In RC there was nothing, not on entering, not on leaving. RW this is a BIG deal. You would expect a clearance. I am struggling to see the advantages of this program over stock FSX ATC at the moment. What am I doing wrong?
September 3, 201114 yr RC4 is all controlled flight. All plans are considered IFR. You can file from an uncontrolled non-towered airport and activate in the air within the stated time. RC will simulate an FSS requested filing and clearance delivery via telephone. Where no approach facility exists RC center will line you up toward your IAF if in the plan and you'll be released to navigate on your own. If towered you will be contacted on final. You also can go visual at any time canceling radar services. A next version objective is planned to include VFR and controlled flight options such as flying VFR and requesting flight following or filing to enter class B airspace while enroute. Looking at filed real world flight plans on flight aware.com each leg is filed separately. The RC round robin is for returning to the origination without landing if that is your question.
September 3, 201114 yr Commercial Member the flight has to go further than your original plan. the tutorial flies north , east across florida, south, and all the way back to the gulf coast in florida. jd JD Read my blog
September 3, 201114 yr Author Ok so the next version sounds good, I look forward to that...might it be a good idea to include an option that allows people to fly shorter IFR flights without getting vectored, the real value of this for me would be to practice typical IR examination routes.Although flying IFR if y ou are entering controlled airspace from uncontrolled airspace you would still need a specific clearance for that, unless I have forgotten something fundamental in my training.
September 3, 201114 yr For practicing arrivals with an aircraft model whose state can be saved and restored IN FLIGHT, fly a full plan. About eighty miles out press ctrl-shift-; and RC will present a dialog to store that state in a named RCD file. The you can start FS with that aircraft parked. In RC load the RCD and it should load the aircraft state and position and weather when you click START on RC. In your FS plan folder you'll see the flt/wxr/rcd files that were created if you wish to check. In order for this to occur the aircraft must have systems designed like the default aircraft which support saving and restoring active states like when you load a saved flight. Some proprietary advanced models do not support fully saved states. In addition for either departure or arrival you can force no vectors within the first 30 nm by choosing one of the departure restriction modes and for arrival after approach assigns a runway and you ack it request an IAP and you will be free to navigate and perform the intercept on your own.
