September 1, 201114 yr Gentlemen; I am thinking for purchasing Orbitz PNW, but I have only 3GB of drive space left on my FSX drive (f:/). My operating system drive (c:/) has nearly 500GB left. Can I install this product, or any other (like aircraft) for that matter, on my "C:" drive easily? If so how? Cheers; Solren 401 Sqn RCAF "Rams" (ret.)
September 1, 201114 yr I don't believe so. If I recall correctly, ORBX sceneries insist on being installed on the same drive as FSX. I'm sure someone here or at the ORBX forums can confirm. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
September 1, 201114 yr You could purchase a hard drive for not much more than PNW. I see a good internal one with 2TB at $79.99. PNW sells for $49.99. September 1, 201114 yr All OrbX scenery must be installed in the <FSX>\ORBX\ folder. After the installation, its possible to move the folders to a different drive and manually re-direct in the Scenery Library. However, you would have to move the folders back and re-set the Scenery Library any time you needed to install a patch or add-on airport for the region, or use FTX Central to change some setting, because those processes expect the OrbX folders to be in the default location. The folders in my OrbX folder beginning with "FTX_NA_PNW" take up a total of 5.7GB. My entire FTX_NA folder is 25.8GB. It's always a good idea to install FSX on a drive with space to spare so there's room for your FSX installation to grow, because add-on aircraft and scenery is only getting bigger. A complex addon aircraft with many repaints in HD can approach 1GB in size, and each OrbX addon airport for PNW is 600MB to 1GB in size. There is one way around your problem, but it's a quite complex procedure. You can use an "NTFS junction point" to redirect the OrbX folder to your C: drive. That way, the FTX Central, any FTX patches etc. will still think the files reside in the f:\<fsx>\OrbX folder, and you won't have to update the scenery library. Given the complexity of the procedure and the chance that you will eventually run out of space on your FSX drive anyway, I think your best bet is to simply re-install FSX on your C drive instead. You could also get a bigger drive, copy over the FSX files and then assign the same drive letter to the new drive (F:).http://en.wikipedia....e-defined_paths -
September 2, 201114 yr Author Thank you very much for the information. This forum is great! I can usually find what information I need by searching, and if not someone with more knowledge will answer. Thanks again. Cheers; Solren 401 Sqn RCAF "Rams" (ret.)
