FS9 startup freezes at "77% loading weather"

Featured Replies

I did a fresh re-install of my FS9. I also installed ActiveSky Evolution. After a couple of times without any problems I experience the following, irrespective of whether ASE is actually running or not:

  • FS9 starts up normally
  • I pick my starting airport, plane, fuel, etc. I leave weather untouched
  • Klick OK
  • The startup freezes at "77% Loading weather"

The only way around this is to fly without any weather, which I do by clicking "clear skies (erases all other weather settings)". Then it starts up fine and I can fly. I have tried starting ASE after getting FS9 to run with clear skies, and I have de-installed ASE as well. That does not solve the problem. The problem comes from not choosing "clear skies (erases all other weather settings". Anyone can help? Is there one corrupt file which I can just erase? Or do I have to do the entire re-install again (please no...)?

Try deleting "Previous flight.WX" and "UI generated flight.WX" from your "Flight Simulator Files" folder, which you should find in "My Documents"... This solved a similar sounding issue I had in the past. FS will re-generate the files. Geoff

It's that Render to Texture setting causing this.

Thanks. I'll try that "render to texture" as the first hint above had not solved the problem. Where can I change that setting? So it should be checked or unchecked? Also, are there any settings in FSUIPC or ASE that I need to make? Thanks for your hints.

Settings>Display>Hardware. Check it and try again. Best regards from Colombia,Luis Miguel

Hmm... it was checked actually... I de-checked and re-checked, will now restart FS9 and report back. You are very helpful (and not for the first time), thanks a lot!

Nope, doesn't work... At "77% loading weather", stuck again. The HD and the CDROM drive start spinning as if the PC was looking for something it doesn't find. Anything else I can try? Any other display/hardware settings? I just want to avoid a complete re-install. I just did one.

Put the Render to Texture setting opposite to the way it is now, then close FS and re-start it.
