Wind aloft data.

Featured Replies

Hi there guys, I was wondering if somebody knows a place where to get accurate wind aloft data to enter in to the FMC.I did search many forums and I did get many wind aloft charts but its hard to tell a precise wind direction from these.Real life pilots do have these data available to them but can we get these to?Sort like a METAR report but then for wind aloft data.

I use Active Sky Evolution for that, which can give winds and temp you at any alt you like and any weather station you like via its weather briefing page, although you can also use Flight Keeper which will do it too from either the ACARS gauge in your cockpit or the main program page if you alt-tab out, as will Electronic Flight Bag I think, and I'm pretty sure REX can do it also. Sorry, something I've been looking for for ages as well. In the meantime time though, I'm hoping for www.pfpx.com which should be due this year (hopefully). sig.gif

Getting REAL WORLD winds aloft is one thing, but really, when flying in FSX, you want the actual winds aloft that are in FSX.Unfortunatly, due to differeing weather servers, and the way FSX works, the REAL World, and whats really withing FSX can be quite different. Simconnect provides a way to get the FSX Extended Metars, what also contain, as an extention, the Winds Aloft info.Unfortuantly, the way the FSX metar is encoded, if different to the NWS format, and is a PITA to decode. If anyone is up for a Challege ( Etienne ?) what would be a really cool addon would be one that got that winds aloft info out of FSX, and displayed in in appropiate ways. Some have attemped to do this, but most seem to have given up before completeing the project.

Really? Didn't know this. I do remember however that I tinkered around with the METARs in SimConnect a couple months ago. Injecting METARs worked just beautifully and was totally instant, I loved it but never made use of it really. Need to check out the extended METAR thing though, you really got me curious there. This is really some info I've been looking for forever. But first there need be some more repainting done. Big%20Grin.gifsig.gif
