January 12, 200422 yr Some months ago, I purchased a new computer with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card. On my old computer, I used my 3d glasses with a nVidia card and drivers. I contacted eDimensional and they said they were working on a new 3d driver which could be use with the ATI card, FS2004 and Directx 9. So far, I have not seen the new driver on their site or in response to my emails. Does anyone know where I can find a 3d driver to use with my ATI card and 3d glasses?
January 12, 200422 yr I dont know, but I was just looking into buying a pair. It says on their website that the glasses are compatible with ATI cards. It didnt say anything about incompatibility with FS9 and DX9. Guess Ill wait until someone posts a good experience with that setup.Craig
January 13, 200422 yr I'm not sure. I emailed a while back to request the beta of their ATI drivers and got a ressponse with the drivers attached. The problem is, unless you've got a monitor that can do better than 120hz refresh rate (which mine will only do at very low resolutions) then their drivers don't work. They say to use a program called PowerStrip to use refresh rates that low, but the only PowerStrip I can find is a payware program. I'm getting a little frustrated with this company. Their last email said that from that point on not to request drivers via email, as they would be available on their site. However, if you go to the site there's nothing there. I sure hope they get it together soon. In the meantime, I definitely do NOT recommend their product if you're using an ATI card.
January 13, 200422 yr Here is Powerstrip:http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/pstrip.exeThe free version is the same as the pay version, it just displays a splash screen each time you start it that you can't clear for 5 seconds or so. Dan
January 17, 200422 yr I have read every entry I can find in the AVSIM forums pertaining to 3D eDimensional glasses, especially in combo with Radeon video boards. I have PowerStrip, and I run the monitor at 800x600 w/ 100hz vert freq. I am able to view eDimensional's 3D graphic clips w/ the E-D viewer. But from the very beginning (Dec 03) I get a fatal error in both fs2002 & fs9. I start the game, hit F5 when the scenery settles - the screen clicks into 800x600 mode, then after a pause it clicks again and goes black except for the top menu bar. After a few seconds the error message appears -Error signature:AppName: fs9.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.30612 ModName: msvcr70.dllModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset: 0000133dI have fs2002 & fs9 installed on different drives with their own copies of msvcr70.dll and another copy in Windows System32 folder - all Ver: 7.0.9466.0. I have been passing on the error message to Microsoft, with no response to date. What do you think? I have been drooling over the glowing reports about never running FS again without 3D. I also have the NaturalPoint headtracker and it works fine. Do you think I'll have to get an Nvidia card, or would even that work??? - Jack BrownAMD XP1800+500M PC2100 RAMMSI KT3 Ultra2-C MoboRadeon 9500 (AGP)ATI Catalyst 3.10 video driversPowerStrip 3.47, EDController 3.4.0.8Win XP HomeDirectX 9.0b
January 18, 200422 yr Just my experience...I have had the ED3D glasses for over a year, When I originally bought them I had an NVidia card and they worked great. When I bought my new PC I had an ATI 9700 Pro installed because ED was announcing the release of the ATI drivers and I have always liked ATI. After some email communications I finally got the drivers and then found out about the high freq requirement and, to be honest, I don't want to have to add another piece of software or run my system at a low resolution just to get them to work. They are now just gathering dust. If you have an ATI card I say dump ED unless you are just more interested in 3D than in FS performance and stability.PS-Don't expect to get any help from them with your problems. My 2 cents
January 18, 200422 yr Thanks, Dan. I got the free version of PowerStrip and now I'm getting 3D effects just fine at 1152x864 @ 100hz. I can't say if it looks good or not, because apparently in the months that my ED wireless glasses have been collecting dust the batteries have run down. grrr. Gotta go get some more tonight.
January 18, 200422 yr Author They have been promising drivers for many many months. Here are some snippets from emails from them, dated: 9/30/2003:Do we have a driver that works with Flight Simulator 2004 yet?"not yet, still working...days/hours away"10/3/2003:"I know a lot of you that I'm sending these drivers to are waiting on directx 9 and flightsim 2004 to be working. Although we think we have it working and ready to send out there have been bugs that have prevented us from emailing the driver. I'm sure in just a small amount of time maybe a few days we will get it all worked out and the program will be working great. "I emailed them again about 3 weeks ago, but apparently I deleted the reply, and it was more of the same.IMO the ED glasses are a novelty that just degrades a quality image. The stereo effect in other games is interesting, but again the image degradation is not worth it. I was hoping to get them working with FS9 but alas, they haven't produced a reliable driver that I am aware of. Perhaps it's time to email them again.Cheers Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync.
