Advice on this setup

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm looking for some advice on how this setup would be to play FSX on? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Ryan

That is a very good system but, where and what will be your GPU. If you need that then go for a GTX 560 Ti or GTX 570 (both look to be in your budget). Your one of the only people on these forums that actually chose a i5 2500k over the i7, very smart person.

Fine as is but to improve it add a video card. You do not need 2133 memory your choice but I would stick with 1600 1.5v-1.6v I like these http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231459Do not install Norton! Buy a gould program like NOD32. Norton is a hog of resources and you will never get it uninstalled if you wanted to, it embedds itself. You could do better on the cooler save a couple of bucks and don't buy the thermal paste and use the paste that comes with this: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835608020

I find Norton very good. I have trend on my build at the moment but I will be putting Norton on next month probably. Have it on 3 of the 5 PCs and never had a problem. (No idea whats on the MacBook)

A video card would be helpful! Would this be the right one? http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814125363 I have been doing a bit of research here on the forums about other peoples builds so thats how I knew to stick with the i5 2500k.

I didn't even add it but I guess it comes free with my purchase of the i5 so I'll take it!

Yes, that video card would be good. Others to consider would be EVGA or ASUS.

Good list. Please for the sake of humanity, don't install Norton lol! Go with ESET or something...http://www.eset.com/us/home/products/antivirus/ Or nothing, like me lol

+1I would rather deal with the virus than deal with Norton. Wiped my whole OS out trying to uninstall that train wreck. Mcafee isn't any better. I would run something though, even the free MS one is better than nothing. Then again I go a lot of places a person under the age of 18 should not go. I keep Eset busy!

As Gary and Ryan say, avoid Norton like the plague. Bloatware that makes your system run like its in treacle. Rest of it looks spot on

Avira is a good option too.

I forgot to ask about what operating system would be best for FSX? I also play some older games that require vista but I am not sure that they could run on anything newer?
