January 16, 200422 yr I managed to replace the COM2 radio in the FS2004 Maule with a NAVCOM2 radio -- in both 2d panels and the VC panel.I also managed to place a VOR2 gauge into the 2D panels -- but cannot place the gauge ( from the Cessna 182s) into the spare space on the VC panel. I think I might have read somewhere that this can't be done.Any ideas? Thanks Barry
January 17, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Barry, try the "MSFS Aircraft and Panel Design Forum" also. They should be able to give you a quick strait answer. ...Post some excerpts from your panel config file. I'm not very familiar but I "think" adding new gauges to a VC isn't a problem as long as they're also included in the 2D. Some time ago I replaced the ASI in my Flight1 Archer in both 2D and VC (knots to mph)
January 17, 200422 yr From what I understand Barry, the VC is hard coded as part of the model. While you can replace one existing gauge with another, as you've already done and even I've done it, you cannot insert a totally new gauge in a "spare" space -- at least not by altering the panel config (which is how I assume you are replacing gauges). But the gauges get put in there somehow. So maybe one of the designers can point you in the right direction. Good luck.-Lindy :-rotor:-wave
January 22, 200422 yr hmmm... i fix my gauges in 2D and 3D in exactly the same way, through panel.cfg... then again, maybe some planes have the 3D ones hard-coded... i guess, i was lucky so far.
January 22, 200422 yr My 2c (EUR): the designer of the VC model has to declare the surfaces/areas on which gauges can be placed. The relative placement of the gauges on these surfaces is described in the panel.cfg virtual cockpit sections. This explains why you can exchange gauges without problems, but most of the time cannot place gauges in unused areas (like the right side of the default Cessna 172 virtual panel).VOlker :]
January 22, 200422 yr Not entirely true - the VC shape is built into the model, the bitmap that textures it and the gauges are not. You should be able to drop it in there. That said, the VC can be divided into several 'parts' with different textures, etc. For example, on a panel with a center pedestal, the left side may have its own VC entry, the pedestal a second, and the right either mirror the left or have its own - that's built into the model, i think. Now if the coordinate you've given your gauge move it off the defined area for a given part, it won't display. Start placing the gauge close to another gauge that does disply and creep it away to where you want it and see what happens. Or buy a WYSIWYG panel editor like FS Panel Studio - these programs have window entries for each VC section. The default planes are a different story - the coordinate system used to define where the gauges are seems to be cryptically mapped to the model. Without and sdk, it like a mouse in a maze trying to figure that one out beyond a 1 for 1 swap...Hope that helps, please correct me if I'm wrong!best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
