January 25, 200422 yr Since you're talking about prptection stuff here and what Billy Gates should know or not know, consider this:I have an English friend who travels a lot for his work--he is a pilot for VIPs and flies the Falcon 2000 jet-- and he just came back from Moscow and told me that in every street market there are pirates who sell everything you can imagine for 1-2$. Their pirated CDs include all games, all software from any maker, all music CDs.He said that LOMAC, FS2004 were 1$ and 3D Studio Max v.5 was 1$50. He also saw addons like Lago products, Abacus, and the usual other big names. He also says that in places like Romania, Poland, and even Hungary the situation is the same, with prices about 10% higher. It seems that MS and other businesses cannot do anything about this and the law does not care, or turns a blind eye. Now it is obvious that Microsfot knows about all this--they do have an outlet in Russia and one has to be blind as a bat not to see what is going on in the market stands there. They do not seem to be doing anything about it. That makes one wonder if pirates, persons of questionable integrity, and the like, have reason to act illegally as their path is unobstructed by any legal measures that the offended companies might take against them. Further, if a giant like MS is unable to do anything about all this, what do you expect the common man in the street to do? The ruling law of economics in any market, everywhere, is that if you can sell cheaper, do it, if you can buy chepaer, do it. At least that is what John Kenneth Galbraith taught the West.
January 26, 200422 yr >I have come>to the conclusion that jwenting is a paranoid troll seeing>pirates under every rock.>>VicI no longer read anything written by jwenting as he has long ago proven himself irrelevant. Jon
January 26, 200422 yr By the way, welcome into the "jwenting has accused me of being a pirate" club. I think the current membership count is in the millions. :)Jon
January 26, 200422 yr Ooohh! And don't forget...if you bought 4 or 5 pair from different stores on different days, you had better have the correct receipt for the pair in question. And oh yes! They now have little pills for the malfunctioning equipment contained by the boxers. Do you think THEY will ever come up with a pill to solve this security problem??? Might be nice! :-)Larry S.
January 26, 200422 yr Thanks for the information. I will not purchase anything from Aerosoft. I reinstall way too often to mess with those kind of things every time. -
January 26, 200422 yr vilk - You should really buy the C152, it's great. You don't need to do any of the things you mentioned. Once you have paid for the product, it extracts a normal installer that you can run as many times as you like. It's no different than other honest (ie. not Aerosoft's) payware products. -
January 26, 200422 yr jimmig, i really appreciate your efforts to make me purchase the 152.like i said above, "running information-gathering code on my machine, sending things out over the internet, planting files and folders in arbitrary locations on my computer (outside of the aircraft directory), why, even sending my ip address to the manufacturer with every online customer query..."no no.i like my toys in small packages. a zip archive with one model file, a couple of config files and some bitmaps is all i need to be happy.:)thanks again for your concern.vilkps.actually, just give me the mdl and some docs.i'm too lazy for that 3d business.but hey, i can do the rest alright.:D
January 26, 200422 yr I'm not trying to convince you to buy it, I'm just trying to give you accurate information, since you appear to a be a bit misinformed about how the Flight1 installers work. Also, since it's a great aircraft I'm hoping others don't avoid it because of some false rumours about Flight1 spyware/information gathering. It doesn't gather any information, the only thing it sends over the internet is the credit card details (like any other purchase does), it doesn't "plant" any files or folders anywhere, and IP number is only sent when you initially buy the product (virtually all online purchases are logged with time, IP number and more).I think I explained in another thread how it works. You download the .exe, and enter your credit card details into it. It's really no different than entering your details into a website and then get a link to the .exe. In fact, I prefer the Flight1 method where anyone can download the .exe, because my internet connection is a bit flaky, so when I get the link I get disconnected halfway through and have to email tech-support and try to get a new link for it. Once the details are entered, it extracts a NORMAL installer, basically a self-extractin zip, to a folder of your choice. You can then erase the initial .exe you downloaded, and only keep the one it extracted. The extracted .exe has NO protection whatsoever, doesn't gather any information, does not require an internet connection and doesn't "plant" any filer or folders anywhere execept the aircraft, Gagues etc. folders of FS. All it does is install the aircraft files. You can run this .exe as many times as you like, even after a total reformat or after getting a new computer/harddrive. You ONLY need to "re-activate" and go through all that if you loose the .exe it extracted. -
January 26, 200422 yr jimmig, can we stop this please?you are making me appear a litlle dull here. all information i have about fligfht1 software comes directly from flight1. i understand this information very well. i am not "misinformed".:)please, let us both be happy with what each of us knows and believes.peace!vilk
