January 23, 200422 yr You fly for an hour or two then get a ctd on short final. Like I'm not impressed. And no, I don't need any help for this one, I'm just ranting. Argh. billgAppreciate your fustration, but please refrain from profanity in the forums.ThanksAidiAssociate EditorAvsim Online
January 23, 200422 yr :-boom I know how you feel :-boomA couple of days ago I completed a Trans-Atlantic flight to Heathrow, and I got a CTD on engine shutdown :-boomI wasn't angry, but it was pretty unbelievable! Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
January 23, 200422 yr That didn't quite happen to me, but once I flew around in the Decathlon for a good two hours and was extremely happy with my flying.I got cocky and just before heading back to land after a satisfying flight I thought I'd fly inverted just above the treetops. No points for guessing what happened next!Needless to say I think I'll be a bit more careful next time...James
January 23, 200422 yr Guys,I know it is the most fustrating thing when you get a crash, and it never happens just after you have started... always on finals!! Have you got or tried the autosave program by Pete Dowson? Its freeware and available from his website. Its a small .dll that goes in your modules folder which will auto save your flight every few mins. Its a great app and allows you to go back and do that final you were hoping to do in the first place.Hope this helpsRgdsAidihttp://www.vfr-flightcenter.com/avsim_sig.jpg
January 23, 200422 yr Hi Aidi,While the FREEWARE(for now) Auto Save by Peter Dowson is a nice program, it does not diminsh or even solve the problem of a CTD (crash to desktop) that users are experiencing.Nor does it address the time lost to reload the program or reboot the computer, if necessary. It is not a solution to the problem, it is only a nice way to save a flight, which would not be needed if the software worked as it was intended.Just my thoughts,Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub162.ezboard.com/baboutpolitics.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
January 23, 200422 yr I never had one CTD until about 3 weeks ago. They were intermittant and always unsuspected.Got frustrated and went back to default installation.Bingo,no more CTD.Now I am slowly adding some extras one at a time.I wonder if there is a addon that a lot of people have downloaded that causes this? Just my experience.
January 23, 200422 yr Never had a CTD in FS2004 that wasn't due to some non-standard non-default bits of kit or incompetent meddling on my part. Software works just as intended. Being too quick to apportion blame to the `software` is "a sweeping generalisation that demonstrates the users inability to grasp the fundamental dichotomy of a set of disparate parameters being brought together under the auspices of dissolute hardware in a vain attempt to make team players out of individual performers. And then blaming the pitch for the match results, not the Coach". (I didn't write that, it came from an e-mail I got from a guru who helped me out with a problem a while back. Thought it was great!) Rants are good though. Gets it all out in the open. Except for system specs, details of aftermarket addons, what kind of `snake oil` tweaks have been applied to the computer, what hardware and what the error message said I think we have all the information.Hope our poster feels better for it.:DAllcott
January 23, 200422 yr Wanna Bet I can give you one. Look for the thread about two weeks ago, regarding CTD's and you will see very detailed examples of CTD's PROVEN to exist in MSFS2004, along with sample flights that will crash your sim. There are many, many experiencing CTD's with default setups and NO-ADD Ons.And I was not being quick. This is documented, proven, and there for those who don't pretend we live in a perfect sim world. The sim is defective and casues CTD's. Proven and factual.Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub162.ezboard.com/baboutpolitics.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.
January 23, 200422 yr "Never had a CTD in FS2004 that wasn't due to some non-standard non-default bits of kit or incompetent meddling on my part."Do a search here for "rhumbaflappy". A few weeks ago Dick posted a number of attachments with flights that are guaranteed to CTD even on a bone stock FS install. tdragger posted a fix by tweaking the Terrain.cfg.
