October 17, 201114 yr Trying to setup a connection for VATSIM after flying on IVAO for many years I have one question...to have all other users show up in the correct a/c model and livery have I understood it correct that I need to manually install AI models like all the World of AI for example or is there a more convenient way?Being used to IVAO's MTL it feels rather cumbersome if you have to install all a/c models manually...
October 17, 201114 yr You get a ton of models with the current Orbx traffic freeware. http://www.fullterra...m/freeware.htmlMy FSInn used them after scanning once, together with most of my UT2 models. Maybe it helps avoiding the separate AI packages.
October 17, 201114 yr You can use any airplane you have installed for traffic in VATISM, wether its WoAI, Ultimate Traffic or your collection of payware tubeliners. Personally I downloaded about 50 packages from WoAI, it wasnt that big of a hassle for me. Overall it took about 15 minutes I guess. You need to register the planes with your VATSIM pilot client for them to work. There are instructions on how to register them in the VATSIM FSInn and Squawbox forums Johan Pettersen
October 17, 201114 yr Ok, thanks for confirming guys and for your advice. I had a hard time getting fsinn to match models correctly until I read this guys post, http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=54246 still kinda clunky if your used to MTL but it helps.
October 18, 201114 yr Check this:http://forums.vatsim...pic.php?t=49162You can use it on any AI package out there, or any aircraft for that matter.People also write it's working great with UT2 if you have it or buy it.And does everything automatically. Only downside, as also with other AI on VATSIM, no gear.
October 18, 201114 yr Author What I've realised by now is that connecting to VATSIM and have everything setup the way you like is in no way a next-next-finish type of business :wink:Thanks alot for all your input though! One more thing...what you wrote about no gear on VATSIM, what exactly did you mean by that...that all a/c are "floating" above the ground when taxiing for example?!
October 18, 201114 yr One more thing...what you wrote about no gear on VATSIM, what exactly did you mean by that...that all a/c are "floating" above the ground when taxiing for example?! Yep. Or you can force them to have gear out all the time. Even air. But no way to tell it to open or close, AFAIK.
October 18, 201114 yr Author Strange that what seems like a very basic and simple thing like that cannot be fixed. What about lights, spoilers, flaps...?Been downloading, downloading and downloading again WoAI a/c since I got home from work and have only completed a small amount so far...must admit IVAO seems like a far better alternative in this regard with their MTL.

It's not that bad. Buy UT2 and convert it with one big swift stroke.
October 18, 201114 yr Author Yes, I read you can use payware AI a/c packages but I rather not spend $ on stuff I can get for free.
October 19, 201114 yr Author Yep. Or you can force them to have gear out all the time. Even air. But no way to tell it to open or close, AFAIK. Did some initial testing tonight connecting to VATSIM after installing a number of WoAI packages and I seem to have a problem wthere not the correct livery is picked but will look more into that tomorrow. However I just wanted to say that as for the probelm with the gear I didn't have that problem, the gear on all surrounding traffic seemed to work just fine.

However I just wanted to say that as for the probelm with the gear I didn't have that problem, the gear on all surrounding traffic seemed to work just fine. Very unusual. For VATSIM traffic to work correctly two things must be correct:1) You must have a livery requested by the client software2) The other computer must have a livery chosenThe most often problem is people using another client, thus SB4 doesn't know which model to show and then shows a default one - for SB4 default it's un ugly white VIP aircraft, or they don't have the aircraft correctly set up in SB4.Happens often, sad but true. That with the gear, glad to hear, unfortunately I do have the problem. Actually same as Bojote wrote on that website, for his tool.
October 20, 201114 yr Author What I did notice was that the gear was retracted a little bit late and not at positive climb but at least I'm happy I don't have to watch other a/c flying with the gear extended all the time. I understand you use Squawkbox and I'm using FSInn, not sure if that can explain why it works in my case and not in yours?Yes, that I don't have a perfect match for all different liveries and a/c models probably is because I have yet to install many more WoAI packages. Very tiring when used to IVAO's MTL but I hope it will be worth it in the end.
