FSX on imac computer

Featured Replies

I am interested in the various favourable comments about the FSX on the imac.My main concern is that having felt how hot the back of the machines get in an apple shop would the computer become damaged by the intense requirements of PMDG 737NGX.Also I like to fly with a second monitor in my current windows computer fed off a single graphics card in my computer so I can use FS commander moving map.Is it possible to attach a second monitor to an imac?Thank-youMichael Houghton

I run FSX with rex, active sky + FSC displaying on a second monitor on an early 2008 2.8Ghz Macpro with the 30" cinema display running at 2560 x 1600, using bootcamp duel boot. I have a 1TB hard drive just dedicated to Win7 64bit with FSX installed. It runs suberbly even with only 2mb ram (I do have to manage the memory).NGX runs ok with no CDT's or stutters as long as you don't overload the memory.I have upgraded the original Graphis card to an ATI 5770 too. I would consider a I5 or I7 based IMac. have a look here http://www.apple.com/uk/imac/performance.htmlPhil

HiI have a brand new iMac 27" with an intel i7 3,4ghz cpu, 2gb radeon video card, and 16gb ram... I am running fsx with rex, ultimate traffic 2, active sky evolution etc under bootcamp and win7 home premium 64 bit....I get perfect graphics, as well as stable fluid FPS of around 30-50( crowded airports) and over 100 FPS while overflying ibiza ( aerosoft balearic scenery) all withmost sliders maxed out....(with the ngx)The display gets hot on the back, but it is even hotter when i am using photoshop under mac os ....but there is no problem at all with the stability of the system....Buying an imac was my best decision ever for a computer....You can connect a second display to an imac, but i have never tried it out, and i am not sure about fps then....Take careMarc

Hi MichaelI've recently got into FSX and am now learning about the 737NGX. I run it on my iMac, not dis-similar to Marc's but the i5 version. So that's iMac 27", i5, 1GB radeon card and 12GB of ram.I've spent quite a bit of time tweaking the set-up and have found a pretty good balance overall. The 737NGX is quite intensive, as you would expect, and I get around a 5-7 fps impact off my usual 35fps. That's with pretty much most of the bells and whistles going but little traffic. The early iMac's could run a second display off the display port but the later iMac's have Thunderbolt, which I am not sure you can (at the moment). I believe it's possible but you need a special cable? Someone can probably correct me. Hope that helps.regardsJasonJason Jackett
