Auto-pilot error (?) after touch-and-go

Featured Replies

I've just flown a couple of touch-and-go circuits in the PMDG 737-800.When I engage the autopilot after take-off following a touch-and-go, the aircraft bank steeply and pitches down dangerously to the point that I need to disengage the autopilot to re-gain manual control. This happens several times. The heading bug and course indicator are set to the runway heading; the FMC is not programmed; the auto-throttle is disengaged. I see nothing programmed in the MCP that would cause the aircraft to behave like this. In addition, when the auto-pilot is re-engaged, it is not possible to activate the heading selector in the way you can after a 'standard' take-off.Does anyone know why it does this? Is it perhaps because you cannot perform touch-and-gos in the PMDG 737 (surely not!)?Thanks for your help.Nick

I for some reason could not intercept the G/S after a go around. It locked on to the LOC, but th G/S... No reaction?!Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,I assume you're using hdg mode with v/s then after you've engaged the autopilot? Maybe a screenshot would give more information on how you set the MCP... Also have you done other settings on the FMC like the perf page?

This used to happen to me with another payware addon. But I haven't tried it with the NGX yet.

As I said, the HDG SELECT button does not engage when I engage the auto-pilot.As I also said, I am not using the FMC. It is not (and should not be) programmed for touch-and-goes. They are visual circuits.Nick

I'm not saying the route. But maybe you need to set all other pages...

Recycle the Flight Director button (off/on) before touching.Bert Van Bulck

Either reset the FD like Bert suggested, or press the TOGA switch. With the AT off, the AFDS will enter TOGA mode and you can switch to other modes from there. TOGA will give you guidance during the go-around part of the touch and go if you need it.
