Andre, you are a gem. Fixed the sky banding and the blocky haze!

Hello guys.As I mentioned in a previous thread, I had found and cleaned my 7-year old computer that has Voodoo5 5500 AGP in it. FU3 runs beautifully with this card, but as in the past, you have to juggle settings and resolution to get flyable frames. On my modern and fast machine (i7-965 and GTX 580) and with nvidia inspector Fu3 runs perfect except for the ugly banding in the sky and the even uglier blocky haze and fog.Trying to find a solution for a long time, I came across the pinned topic by Andre DDFIX for FU3, wherein he mentions that DDFIX enables, among other things, 32-bit which is the solution for a sky banding and blocky haze/fog. The links to download DDFIXM.7z and the hex editor XVI32.exe seem to be broken but I found them in Google.Following Andre's steps, I got DDFIX enabled and graphics in FU3 are now supreme at great framerates. No banding, no blockiness, but smooth colors! I see that other folks had problems launching the DDFIX-enabled flight3.exe; the trick is in the shortcut Properties:-Run this program in winXP (SP2) compatibility.-Disable visual themes-Disable desktop composition-Run it as administrator. If anyone needs help finding the DDFIXM.7z let me know.So dear Andre, thank you very much for your finding and procedure. Also many thanks to the guy who made this mod for Thief in the first place.

Hi NaJi, glad to help you, I have tested DDFIX in 2008 and wrote the tutorial but it was Juvat who found the DDFIX for the Thief project of Looking Glass.Actually I don't use it, because I have no problems with my old XP system and Nvidia GEForce 8600 GT :-)Good to hear that it will help on new hardware.have a good flightAndre

Alas Andre, nothing is perfect in life: just found out when I was flying in rain that the lovely water drops effects on the forward-view cockpit don't show with ddfix; only the side windows show the rain effects! Blast, the struggle seems never to end! Any idea why only the forward view lacks the rain effects?

Which plane ?

All the planes that I tried: Mooney, trainer, mirage. Some have been fixed with cockpit designer and some in original status. All don't show the rain drops on forward view

:-( too bad, same result and I tried to modify params in the ddfix ini file with no results. It must be a special graphic call used in the front view, you can activate panel movements in the front view, but not on the side view - no switches or instruments in the side views.I had downloaded the source but it's anywhere in my backups and no more online. I can try to find it if you want try to modify the assembly code.sorry , there are actually no solution .

The work by Timeslip, who developed ddfix and who seems to have stopped improving on it, is being continued by jermi over at TTLG. I sent him a note. From reading about it at that forum, it appears that ddfix ver 1.1.1 is based on dx9, whereas all the latest versions, from the one you wrote about ver 1.3.11 and till the last one ver 1.5.12, are based on dx6. I tried locating ver 1.1.1 with no success. That one is worth trying I think.By the way the latest ddfix versions have much more parameters in the ini file, even bloom.

Naji,Did you get the rain sound file I E-mailed you, and, if so, have you installed it ?I am curious as to what your opinion of it is as opposed to the original.Stuart

Here is a link to get DDFIX 1.1.1 but result during my test was an error message indicating dirctx 6 or higher needed !?!http://www.mediafire.com/?31844vmebl1l111may be it will work for you, good luckAndre

Hi, Stuart. I sure got it and sent my thanks by email. It sounds beautiful and better than the original in my opinion. Thank you again.Andre, many thanks. I will give it a try

I tried it. With some fiddling, I got it working, however with the primary driver selected the minute I touch a key or a joystick button it hangs. It works ok without the driver and rain appears on the front view.
