November 18, 201114 yr Hello,First off I need to say that every time I decide to try out another company I am always sorely disappointing with the exception of LDS767. I have put about 100 hours on the new NGX and it makes all other aircraft almost un fly able to me with my now picky taste. I tried the CS767 and am having issues I would not have with PMDG and regret it now. The NGX is perfect in every way, not even the throttles and yokes jerk around when on autopilot/auto throttle.I am seriously considering buying the MD11. I am a long time flyer of the Queen in FS9 and FSX and one thing I noticed in watching the you tube videos is that the MD11 seems to have the same issue with jerking throttles/yokes on AP. The NGX is so very smooth so I know they could have worked this out with an update in both planes, 747 and MD11. This jerkiness really kills an otherwise very realistic and immersive experience in some of the best 3rd party payware addon aircraft on the planet. My hesitation in purchasing the MD11 unfortunately comes down to this behavior because I do 100% of my flying through the VC and on the long haul routes the AP/AT is on 99.9% of the flight.Has this been fixed? On a side note maybe I will be bonnused with someone telling me there was a fix for the queen with this as well. Thanks! Marc Lynn
November 19, 201114 yr It has not been fixed as far as I know. PMDG have stated numerous times that the queen and MD-11 are complete products and wont have anymore service packs released. I don't find this an issue, and even after been treated by the NGX, I am still amazed and satisfied by the depth and detail of the MD-11. I highly recomend it.

November 19, 201114 yr Author Ok I broke down and made the purchas! Love it so far. I have been sitting at the cargo ramp at PANC for 6 hours now reading the manuals. It's probably going to be another 6 hours of reading before I fly it.I guess I can live with jerky throttles if I don't look down there. Marc Lynn

November 20, 201114 yr Author I spent the last 15 hours on the ground at PANC reading the manual. Short days there this time of year. Anyway, coming from Boeing products this is a very interesting airplane in a good way for the most part. First off, great modelling by far. I am blown away in a blown away kind of way. The visual and systems modelling is by far unbelievable. After all these hours so far and with a good checklist I was finally able to go flying. I have no problem with hand flying but coming from Boeing products was just still lost at first with the autoflight and FMS. The FMS is completely different and seemingly engineered poorly (compared to Boeing). I find it unnecessarily complicated but yet deceptively simple. The VNAV compared to Boeing is rock solid however. I almost felt like I was cheating doing VNAV descent all the way down to the ILS 7L at PANC. The Boeing VNAV can be so flaky and I am always at some point using speed int or the like with Alt or VS. The MD11 even kept track and estimated my path when off the STAR and on vectors pretty good. One strange thing was there were no flap schedules it appeared. What was on the speed tape were the limit speeds for the next flap and gear setting but the "mush" limit speeds did not seem to be there for acceleration on departure or deceleration on arrival. It was interesting to note that as I put in the next set of flaps and the airplane slowed down to the next scheduled flaps speed the pitch attitude was so very high. Especially turning on the VTF(vector to final) my pitch angle got up to 12 degrees. The speed was above the yellow by about 20 KIAS but that would have been unnerving to me in the real airplane. With the Boeing however I am never using VNAV at that point anyway so maybe it is just a change of sight picture I am not used to.All in all for a heavy long range hauler I am very happy, this was what I was looking for to compliment the Queen and for something a little different. I like all facets of sim flying from the 737 type shorter routes and when I need my long range fix, those routes also. There is nothing like watching the sun set and rise on the same flight while flying rubber dog xxxxx out of Chai-pek.Oh and the throttle and yoke jerking is there but minimal and turbulence induced. I wonder if tweaking the FSUIPC settings a little more may help this. Thanks PMDG! Marc Lynn
November 20, 201114 yr Great to hear that you like it :) I find it unnecessarily complicated but yet deceptively simple.I find those words spot on for the MD11 Another example of that is that you can not make a waypoint manually "overfly" as you can with boeing. The only way to make that is to either have it in a SID, STAR or to cheat the system by making 2 waypoints after each other. On such a high tech aircraft they could not have figured out that.... But the FMS is also very smart, you are even able to enter at what time you want to cross a waypoint the aircraft will do so^^Regarding the flaps, I only put down the flaps when I have to, That way the aircraft keeps up quite a normal speed during approach although i use FR SR during takeoff and climb. I don't want to ruin your learning experience but here are some tips for boeing pilots to transfer to the MD11 http://support.preci...-the-md-11.aspx. Manfred G. Ships are cooler that you think.
November 20, 201114 yr I like the fact of the MD11 that is a little bit more automated than a 737. I love to watch the fuelsystem doing its work on a longer flight. I also love the flaps. In the windowview flaps 50 looks really wired but nice also. And of course in the cockpit you have to watch out that you don't overspeed or underspeed with flaps 50. John Rubens
