FSScreen vs. FSAutoStart

Featured Replies

Since I started using Ken Salter's FSAutoStart utility, I have been having difficulty taking screen shots using FSScreen. FSScreen shows the picture in its 'last shot' window, but no files are saved. Any ideas what might be the issue? Must be a service I'm disabling but can't imagine which. Its NOT print spooler...first thing I thought of. I'll start enabling one by one unless someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!sg

I have the same problem. Tried asking about this in another post but it vanished. Seems like when you quit FS, AutoStart kills FSScreen also.Todd

I don't use FSScreen, so you'll have to help here. Is this a stand alone exe or a Module with Flight Sim?I've been meaning to download it and try it out - guess I got a good reason to now.

Hi Ken,it's a stand-alone exe. It doesn't require FS at all, it works with any program. What it does, is change the Windows 'Print Screen' function, so that instead of just copying the screenshot to the clipboard, it now saves it as a .bmp to a user-defined folder. My guess is that it relies on a Windows process which otherwise could be safely shut down for running FS.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

Then I bet you need to run the Clipbook service.

"Then I bet you need to run the Clipbook service."Yes, this is correct. I believe most of the popular screen shooter add-ons rely on Clipbook. FSScreen does.Edit: I leave mine set at "Manual" in XP's Services. That way Clipbook is started only when needed.

I inadvertently left FSScreen running the other day while using MS Excel 2002, and every time I copied a grouping of cells to move them within the spreadsheet I found the "Paste" option in the right-click menu was greyed out. I tried everything I could think of to copy and paste text and finally exited Excel after saving my document figuring a reboot (who knows?) might help. Upon activating the FSScreen window to close it, I saw in its most recently saved image preview window a really tiny picture of Excel data. Yep, it took 28 pictures of my spreadsheet. I knew it would take pictures with the PrintScrn button, but this was my first experience with "Copy." Implications?Kevin

I knew I could count on you guys! I'll give this a try tonight - I want to get some screenies of the new RXP WX500 with some weather themes to post... I'll report back, but I'm sure I know the outcome!Ken, could this fact be added to the help text for the clipbook service?Best,sg

Hi Greg,>"Then I bet you need to run the Clipbook service."Yes, this is correct. I believe most of the popular screen shooter add-ons rely on Clipbook. FSScreen does.Edit: I leave mine set at "Manual" in XP's Services. That way Clipbook is started only when needed.<......now this is odd. I've spent the last half hour playing around with FSScreen+FSAutostart+FSCamera+FS2004(full screen and window) using my configuration settings, as posted elswhwere, and I have experienced no problems. Like you I have the Clipbook Service set to 'Manual' and it NEVER starts up. In FSAutostart the setting is 'No Action' and it remains 'Stopped'. So, I think the solution to sg and Todd's problem must lie elsewhere.Clipbook description:'Enables Clipbook Viewer to share information and share it with remote computers' I suggest they take another look at my settings in both FSAutostart and Services in Windows (type: services.msc in the run box) and use these as a guide to their initial settings:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=175081&page=3Mike

Thanks Mike, will do.What's interesting to me is that in FSScreen, when I press print screen, a preview image is loaded into FSScreen's 'most recently saved image' box, yet a file is never saved...I think there is where the problem lies.sg

If it works for you, I definitely will. So please post your results! Thanks,

This has probably got nothing to do with sg's and Todd's problem but I have noted a file called 'ntvdm.exe' appearing from time to time in the Programs section of FSAutostart.Google provided the following info:ntvdm - ntvdm.exe - Process InformationProcess File: ntvdm or ntvdm.exeProcess Name: Windows 16-bit Virtual MachineDescription: Application that provides an environment for a 16-bit process to execute on a 32-bit platform.Company: Microsoft Corp.System Process: YesSecurity Risk ( virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): NoCommon Errors: N/A This file's behaviour is different to other programs in that once it appears, it stays. This is so even when I've closed everything down with EnditAll and returned to the desktop. The same applies to ieexplore.exe, even when I have exited. Both appear with the 'No Action' setting in FSAutostart. Quite different behaviour if you start something like, say, 'Notepad' - this entry appears while it is running (as it should) and disappears on closing.I suspect ntvdm.exe is bound in some way to ieexplore.exe and, if it appears while checking the configuration settings in FSAutostart, should probably be left alone and not 'Stopped'.Mike Edit: turns out at least one of my assumptions is untrue - see my next post in this thread.

16-bit stuff could be releated to the garmin trainer application - do you have the reality xp garmin?

"16-bit stuff could be releated to the garmin trainer application - do you have the reality xp garmin?"...no I don't.I'm going to have to revise the observations made in my previous post. I've just deleted references in the program configuration section of FSAutostart.ini of ntvdm.exe and iexeplore.exe. I confirmed both entries had gone in FSAutostart while running. I then fired up IE and its entry duly reappeared in FSAutostart. Closing IE down removed the entry. So, I was incorrect about that. :( At some point I must have clicked 'Save' when iexplore.exe and ntvdm.exe were both present in the programs listing - Sorry! No sign of ntvdm.exe reappearing ...yet! Remains a mystery at the moment.Mike

fyi - in the next build FSAutoStart will remember programs that were running even if they aren't currently. A new column has been added to indicate if the program is currently running.
