Transparency Antialiasing in FSX - Multisampling or Supersampling?

Featured Replies

I just tried Bojote's FSX tweaking tool and sent my FSX.cfg file but one of the recommendations was to turn off Transparency Anti-aliasing. The only place I found this was in the NVIDIA Inspector FSX configuration menu. Transparency Anti-aliasing Multisampling is disabled but Transparency Anti-aliasing Supersampling is set to 4X. Does anyone know if they mean the one that is already disabled or the supersampling one too? Does anyone know if there is a forum site for Bojote's website to ask questions directly? Thanks. Tom

I know for me there is a performance hit using any transparency AA that became apparent when I began using the NGX, so I turned it off.

Beauty comes at a cost. ;) I have FSS at 4x Multisampling, which takes care of the jaggies on planes, buildings, etc. but in order to get rid of (amongst others) shimmering trees I also have Supersampling enabled and at 4x Sparse Grid.I don't use bojote's tweaker because I don't believe in 'one fix for all'. The automatic tweaker adds too much junk to my cfg. Mind you, if it wasn't for bojote and the BP tweak, I wouldn't be as happy as I am today with FSX, so I am very grateful for bojote's contributions, but that tweaker isn't that good imho. You are better off adding tweaks one by one and test them to get the most out of your system. Of course, if you hate tweaking, that tool can be helpful. ;)

Thanks for the help, guys. When I sent in my hardware specs with the FSX.cfg file I chose 8 Cores because I have a i7-920 4 core processor with hyperthreading enabled. It also shows 8 graph divisions in Task Manager. Do you happen to know if 8 cores is the correct entry? Thanks again. Tom

It's showing eight because four are virtual cores. When you have hyperthreading enabled (which you don't need for FSX), it will do that.
