Help with installing Project Airbus A320 basepack and liveries

Recommended Posts

Hi all.As the title says, I am trying to install the above into FS9 but I am a little confused as to where I should be placing the folders, I am not a novice by no means, I have installed many add-ons and done various tweaking but for some strange reason I am having problems with this!I have had an older project airbus package installed before, but that was a complete package which included the livery I wanted therefore it was easy to do!What I want to do now is install the new version of the Project Airbus A320 and the liveries, I have read many times the instructions and tried placing the folders where it says but it does not make a lot of sense to me, perhaps it's me being thick!?Anyway, first of all, do I install as it says in the read me file, extract the base pack and put the folder directly under the FS9 root folder and not in the FS9 aircraft folder? And then I put the aircraft livery in the aircraft folder? If that's the case then I have tried that and executing the livery installer.bat file but it does not work. I must be going wrong somwehere but cannot figure out what exactly! I think I am so close yet so far!If someone can explain a little bit more as to where exactly I put each folder then that would be a great help, Thanks!

Hi Mark,You are probably closer than you think! The PA folder; Project Airbus A320 V2.1 (the base) goes in your FS9 aircraft folder as do the individual folders representing the three aircraft types; Project Airbus A320-111, Project Airbus A320-214 and Project Airbus A320-232. Place a livery package in the appropriate aircraft folder, as an example: unzip "pa320_livery_jbu_fs9_20111111: in there you will find a file named "Project Airbus A320-232" open that and cut and paste the contents into the Project Airbus A320-232 folder located in your FS9 aircraft and run the livery installer Bat file. Once completed you will find the aircraft listed in the selection menu under "Project Airbus". I hope this helps you out.Regards,Mel

Mark!I am sure you will get it in the end .Like yourself i am also a fairly long in the tooth simmer, but heck that P.A. new install method had me scratching my head as well. Can't see what was wrong with the good old tried and tested manual livery install I.E.texture's convert to DXT3 (in my case) add livery text to aircraft CFG ,add textures to Aircraft folder and VOILA !! we have aeroplane.Anyway the new way does work.Guess I am just a Luddite .A of SOcks

Cheers guys. I have not had chance to have another go at it yet but I will try when I get a bit of spare time (something I don't have much nowadays!). From Mel's reply it looks fairly straightforward and I can see already what I have done wrong, I was putting the base folder directly under the the FS9 root folder and not the aircraft folder, something which I thought was strange at the time when I was reading the read me file. No wonder the aircraft was not showing up then. I think the read me file is a bit misleading in that case as it does say to put it under the FS9 root folder and not under FS9/aircraft folder. Does anyone else think that it misleading or is it just me?Cheers Andy for your response too, your comments to other people's posts are always fun to read!Mark

Mark,The Project Airbus readme does actually say," .......[FS9 root]Aircraft folder ........", but I agree with you that it could have been expressed more clearly. A simple "into the FS9 aircraft folder" would have done the job nicely.Horatio,We Luddites will be proud to call you one of our own, if we can stand to tolerate the change that is.Regards,Mel

Hi MelThat's strange as the read me file that I was looking at says to put the base package under the root FS9 folder, not the aircraft folder. Only the livery folder goes under the root FS9/Aircraft folder as I quote and highlighted and put in itallic's:# Project Airbus Airbus A320www.pairbus.com## versionV2.1 - 11/10/2011## installationThe Project Airbus A320 is being distributed via a single base package and individual livery packages. To install the base package, simply extract the compressed file folder under your root FS9 folder. The base package does not contain any liveries - you must install at least one livery package before flying. To install a livery package, simply extract the compressed file folder under your [FS9 root]Aircraft folder. Then, browse to [FS9 root]AircraftProject Airbus A320-214 if you're installing a CFM engine livery, or [FS9 root]AircraftProject Airbus A320-232 if you're installing an IAE engine livery. Inside that folder, simply double click the _Livery Installer_PA.bat file to complete the livery installation. On completion, the installer will leave behind an aircraft.backup file should you wish to reverse the changesPerhaps it was just me being a bit dense! Never mind, all sorted now. Thanks for your helpMark

Mark,You are absolutely right. When i looked it up I skipped to the second paragraph and missed the very misleading statement in the first paragraph. Ooooops!I'm glad you got things working!Mel

Thanks Mel, I am glad that I wasn't seeing things and that the instructions were not just misleading to me!I have got it working now, well, kind of; I have managed to install the package and livery for the A321 which is working fine. However, I have installed the A320 V2.1 plus the 3 other folders in the aircraft folder, as I did with the A321 but the livery I am trying to install does not show up. I am trying to install Monarch Airlines livery that was recently added to the AVSIM library (monarch_airlines_294773.zip) but for some reason it is not showing in the aircraft selection. I don't know if it's because I may have put the livery in the wrong folder, the Monarch livery says it's A320-212 but there isn't one of those so I put it in A320-214 folder and ran the installer and although the aircraft.cfg file shows the monarch livery installed it isn't showing up.Any ideas where I have gone wrong?Cheers Mark

Hi again,I just installed this paint for you and what I found was a error on the part of the author. Open the aircraft configuration and find the entry for Monarch, find model=cfm_200 and change that to simply model= and you'll be good to go.Mel

Oh, I forgot to ask while on this subject, and this applies to anyone, but which panel for the A320/A321 would you recommend to use? There are quite a few in the AVSIM library and I have always used the one by Ken Mitchell which I have been quite happy with, does anyone recommend to use any other one or is that the best one to use?

I use Ken's Panel myself. I have created a separate one for the A319, A320, and the A321 to take into account the different wing view positions along with personalized tweaks and artwork. I have tried many, many others and always found Ken's to be the best, . . . . short of going to the trouble of a merge with a payware Airbus. My pleasure Mark.Mel

RE. A320 panelI am also Ken Mitchell man.I have kitted it out with all sorts of freeware gauges IE pushback ,Tcas,Cockpit commander etc etc etc and I haven't seen a better bus freeware panel ,I also use it in my a330s as well. There is a version also by Ken (allowing for the four engines)for the A340 too.cheers Andy
