MIPMAP SETTING ??

Featured Replies

I took a FLT from KLAS to KSLC lastnight and I noticed at FL310 I had some slight stutters outside my left window.I use MSFS weather and clouds and was flying a PMDG 737NG,UT set @80%,Frame Lock at 20,Weather was mostly cloudy Cumulus Tops @ 12,000 AGL.My FPS straight was ~19 Left side ~14 and Rightside ~9.When I reduced my MipMap from 4 to 3 I saw an increase of about 2 FPS and the slight stutters got smoother. In my ATI control panel I have a slider under 3D for mipmap where should I place this slider and what is the optimum number withing FS9 to use for mipmapping ?? Does a program like FSMETAR help with weather ??Thanks

> Does a program like FSMETAR help with weather ??I would say no. FSMETAR is an excellent freeware program that loads one METAR in FS. This means you have the same weather on the left side, front and right side. Other programs like MSFS default weather, FSMeteo or ActiveSky are able to generate different conditions at the same time, and this can explain you have more clouds on the left than on the right.Resized cloud textures can help a lot. Just search here in the file library.Regards.

fwiw, I have an nvidia based card and MM set at 5. Even when my fps goes down into single digits, there are no stutters...and the plane remains more or less flyable.Sherm

In the ATI Control Panel, you should leave Mipmapping at the highest setting. You should also enable Anisotropic Filtering. I have it at 8x Performance mode with my Radeon 9700 Pro.In FS2004, I find the ideal mipmap setting to be 4. Any higher just reduces framerate with no difference to the image quakity. Also, because the Radeon cards don't anti-alias alpha-textures, you get shimmering autogen trees with a higher setting.BTW, your framerates seem a bit low. I'm getting 30+ with my 2.2 GHz AthlonXP and Radeon 9700 Pro.

You also need to aware of what drivers you are currently running for your video card. I found setting have varying effects depending on the driver version. Catalyst 4.1 seems one of the best (I

I almost forgot to tell you...:-wave Go into your video card's setting and turn Mipmap down to it's lowest setting. You should get better results as far as framerates goes. Let me know how much of an increase you find...

I have to correct my statement above... For ATI users 'Mipmaping' is important in FS and should be set at least to Performance level. What I ment to write above was 'Anti-Aliasing' should be set to it's lowest setting or at least 4x in your video card's settings. Anti-Aliasing is turned off by most of us in FS9 due to performance issues so therefore the need to have it on in your video card settings doesn't make since (unless your other games use this feature). You can't turn off AA but you can turn it down. For me 4x works and setting Mipmaping to performance gives me good frames.Sorry for the typo above...
