November 29, 201114 yr Hello. Good day to all. There is something I've wondered for quite some time:I do my FSX'ing on an Dell Laptop that performs reasonably well, but I still have the video drivers that originally came with it (quite old). I haven't upgraded them because I read somewhere on Nvidia's site that Laptop drivers are handled differently in that the manufacturing company (in this case Dell), tweak or modify the drivers provided by Nvidia to taylor them to their specific hardware, and that I should get my updates directly from them.Basically I have 3 options: Keep the "dell certified/modified/arpoved/whatevr" drivers from Jan/2010 with the philosophy of don't messing with what works Use Windows Update to upgrade to their latest offer May/2011, or Go to the Nvidia website and get the current offer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Regards,Armado Arjona.
November 29, 201114 yr Well...is there a new driver for your card? Check the version you have to the version whats on offer at Nvidia. If there was, i would use Nvidia's site. But then again, if it aint broke, dont fix it Regards Luke M
November 29, 201114 yr Author Well...is there a new driver for your card? Check the version you have to the version whats on offer at Nvidia.Yes, Nvidia offers a current driver for my video card model, but they themselves say that I should not get my drivers from them, but directly from Dell, and Dell has nothing newer than what I already have. So I don't know what to do...
November 29, 201114 yr You can always go back to the Dell certified drivers after trying the latest Nvidia ones. Don't use Windows update thoughIf play other games apart from FS9/FSX, newer drivers can help with performance and bug fixes.
November 29, 201114 yr I agree with Luke 100%. There are guys going back and using older drivers and getting better results! So much for using the latest drivers. So as the man said, if it 'aint broken don't try and fix it HowardMSI Mag B650 Tomahawk MB, Ryzen7-7800X3D CPU@5ghz, Arctic AIO II 360 cooler, Nvidia RTX4090 GPU, 32gb DDR5@6000Mhz, SSD/2Tb+SSD/500Gb+OS, Corsair 1000W PSU, LG Ultragear 48"4K, MFG Crosswinds, TQ6 Throttle, Fulcrum One YokeMy FlightSim YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@skyhigh776
November 29, 201114 yr Author That is good advice in general, but in this case the drivers are so old that I can't use nhance or nvidia inspector with them. Is that a problem?
November 29, 201114 yr That is good advice in general, but in this case the drivers are so old that I can't use nhance or nvidia inspector with them. Is that a problem?Well sure, that's another point altogether. If you are asking should you change your driver to enable you to use Nhancer or Inspector then absolutely. They will give improved AA and filtering but probably at a cost compared to the default Nvidia CP. I suggest you make a system restore point on your OS and then try out the new driver. It may be an improvement, it may not, but it will allow you to experiment. I think I'm right in saying that Nhancer will not work with the new Nvidia drivers, not sure. But Inspector is the choice of many who have Nvidia cards.
