Can't Release Parking Brake

Featured Replies

I cannot release my parking brake on my MD-11 once set. Once i set my parking brake or my flight starts with the parking brake set, i can't release it. It will not recognize CTR+(.) OR (.) nor can i move it with the mouse. The curser does not change to a hand when passing over the lever and remain's an arrow. Also it will not release when applying my brakes with my CH Pedals.I don't have this problem with my PMDG 747X or 737NGX, however it will not release by applying my pedal brakes on those a/c either.I have all of my controllers set up with FSUIPC and seem to remember loosing parking brake release when applying the brakes with my rudder pedals after doing this, but thought nothing of it as i could still release with key commands or mouse click, so i am wondering if there is something i have or havent done in the FSUIPC set up.Has anybody had this problem. If so, i would appreciate your ideas on a solution because it's got me stumped. Thanks,

Rick Hobbs

Hi Rick,The parking break in the MD11 is released by tapping the brakes. There isn't a mouse click on the lever assigned because you can't release the break so. However you should be able to release the breaks by pressing the 'period' on your keyboard. Maybe you can check in your FSX own keyboard assignments if the (.) is still assigned. Maybe it got lost somehow...I use Saitek pedals and I am also not able to release the parking break in the MD11 with them. It works fine in the NGX but not in the MD11. Maybe we miss something?Jonathan

I reiterate what Jonathan said but also find it odd that you state you can use the period key with other PMDG aircraft. If that's the case then also check your PMDG keyboard commands for the 744 via the menu option and see if you have something else accidentally set using it that's blocking the default, standards.xml (your fsx control assignments). Lastly and on this same idea, check FSUIPC's settings if you use it that is. Maybe somehow something there is also set for overriding the period. In any case, if the "." key is working in other aircraft and just not this one, then somethings sure not kosher in Denmark.Oh, I also wanted to say that I never knew the parking brake wasn't operational with the mouse. Are you sure Jonathan? Normally when someone doesn't get the correct hand icon it's because they are stuck behind a barrirer, unseen to them. In other words if you happen to use Track IR or EZCA, it's very common for someone to accidentally put themselves inside the seat. That will block mouse commands since even though you can't see the texture in front of you, it's still blocking mouse areas.Hope this helps.

Hi Dan,You got me wrong a little bit. The parking break leaver can be operated by the mouse. But you are only able to set it. To release the parking break you have to press the toe breaks, because you can't use the lever for it. At least I thought so. I will look into the FCOM to crosscheck my statement as sokn as I am able to, because on my mobile it is a little bit tricky to search something. Jonathan

Okay I have found it:PMDG MD11-Systems, page 457:Parking brakes are set by applying full braking pressure with the toe- operated rudder pedal brakes, positioning the PARK BRAKE handle full aft, and then releasing the rudder pedals. This traps braking pressure in the system.PMDG MD11-Systems, page 458:The parking brakes can be released by fully depressing and then releasing the toe pedals. Depressurization of the hydraulic system(s) will not affect parking brake capability. Subsequent pressurizing of the hydraulic system(s) will automatically reset full parking brake capability regardless of initial parking brake pressure.Maybe you want to check your CH Paddals if you can use their full range of motion. Thanks guys for your suggestions. After fiddling with this for hours and checking my Fsx settings and my FSUIPC settings and found nothing wrong, i noticed that my version of FSUIPC was rather old (the one installed with RC4). So i decided to upgrade to the latest (V4.745) and problem solved. I can't think why but when i first set up my CH Yoke & Pedals, it was using the CH config manager and although everything worked, i found things very eratic (especially the rudder) so i decided to go the FSUIPC route for my controls and what with flying my 747 and then the 737NGX came along, i had kinda neglected my MD-11 until recentlly when i decided to take a flight with it and got stuck at the gate with the parking brake on. So i can only assume there was something in the old FSUIPC that my MD-11 didn't like, because outside of upgrading, i haven't changed a thing. You are right Jonathan. I can only set with the mouse.Regards,

Rick Hobbs
