December 4, 201114 yr I have just purchased REX2, but I am struggling to understand the interface. Everything is checked in the Configuration Manager, and I have created a theme. However, it seems that every time that I want to change one aspect of the Theme Creation utility, I have to reinstall ALL of the textures again. Is that correct? Also, even when I uncheck the airport runway textures in the Configuration Manager, these textures are still loaded when I start FSX. How do I get the original runway textures back (the ones I used before REX 2 was installed)? Surely I can do this? December 4, 201114 yr First of all, I think you are confusing the Options tab with the Configuration Manager...Secondly: you do NOT have to install everything again if you only want to change one aspect of a theme (or, in other words: if you only want to install one specific texture). The answer for this lies on the Options tab. Go there and ONLY enable the things you actually want to (re-)install. This way the next time you let REX install textures, it will only install the checked ones!In case you really have everything (also) checked on the Configuration Manager: don't do that unless you want to use the REX weather engine!Installing REX textures into FSX is a set and forget kind of thing. When you have installed REX textures in FSX they stay there until you install new ones!!! So UNCHECKING the airport textures, as you did, will keep the ones you installed previously! So you actually have to think the other way around: if you want to install other runway textures, uncheck EVERYTHING apart from the runway textures on the Options tab and then install them: they will overwrite your previous selection. If you want the original textures back again, you will have to go to the Configuration Manager and restore the backup. However, this will restore everything back to default so after that you have to reinstall your theme again, making sure you ONLY have the things selected on the Options screen that you want...Hope you are still following me here... It's very easy when you know how it works. (As usual.)BTW I said installing REX is a set and forget kind of thing: once you have installed the textures you like, you do not have to run REX before running FSX. The installed REX textures will stay in FSX until you install others. I have one theme I always use so I only run REX once after installing FSX and then I won't run REX for months or even years... Even when you use the REX weather engine, you do not have to run REX first as long as you have the option 'Enable REX Weather Engine startup with FSX' enabled. In short: ONLY run REX when you want to change one or more textures (or settings for the weather engine).
December 4, 201114 yr +1, REX is "Set and Forget" software. I don't mean to be rude but if you patiently read the PDF manual you will very quickly learn how easy REX is to work with. You may initially spend some time finding textures you're happy with but after that it's job done, so to speak. J van E's comment about setting the weather engine to start with FSX is also a good idea. However, if you fly in VFR (like I do much of the time) you may find the live weather will leave you grounded. In this case just close the weather engine as it starts up and create your weather within FSX. It will still use the pre-installed REX textures. One more thing, REX Overdrive is a free " after purchase" download and and adds really cool HD textures. Anthony O'Brien

December 5, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the detailed response, Jeroen. Tim has kindly answered my questions in the REX forum. I just needed to get my head around how the interface worked, and I think I understand it now. Once I had worked out how to do it, I restored the original textures for everything, unchecked those options that I didn't want upgrading (specifically the runway and taxiway textures), set the themes for water/clouds/sunrise etc, and then installed the new stuff. I probably haven't reached the point where everything is perfectly to my satisfaction, but I will continue tweaking and experimenting :( Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
December 6, 201114 yr Commercial Member @Jeroen, thank you for your help.As you know by now Christopher, there's many things to learn about REX, especially if you are using all the features. The manual is very descriptive, so have at it.:)Cheers gents! Tim FuchsManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com
