December 5, 201114 yr HiJust about to order my Asus 1GB GeForce GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II but noticed it needs 2 PCI 6 pin power connections. My Gigabyte Supertb 550W power supply only has one 6 pin and one 2 pin. Can I still connect it ?Thanks
Can I still connect it ?ThanksThe card should have come with a 2 molex to single pci 6 pin connector.Check the box to see if it is in there.something link THIS
December 6, 201114 yr Author Just a question regarding this 2 pin molex connection, Just need a bit of clarification please. I have done a bit of looking and there is 1x 6 pin and 1 x 2 pin pci connections coming from 450W Gigabyte Superb PSU. Even though its stated as a 550W on the box, is this power supply adequate for the 560 ti? I was looking at buying Asus 1GB GeForce GTX 560TI DirectCUIIhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-GeForce-560TI-DirectCUII-Graphics/dp/B004K8R8DASecond I have read that you do not split the 6 pin power supply so I obviously need to convert the 2 pin to the 6 pin connection. Is this what the molex connector does ? Thankyou
December 6, 201114 yr Yeah, it's labeled 550W but that's peak voltage. max rated at the 12V is 360W, which is borderline for a 560Ti.To connect the 560Ti you would use the 6pin connector from the PSU (ignoring the 2 pin connector) and then use a molex - 6 pin adapter for the second 6 pin connection
December 6, 201114 yr Author Thanks Daz but I thought I read somewhere that you can't split the power from 1 connection.....you need to connect both PCI leads.
December 6, 201114 yr Thanks Daz but I thought I read somewhere that you can't split the power from 1 connection.....you need to connect both PCI leads.I'm not sure I understand that. You have 1 PCIe connector in your PSU, and it's a 6+2 connector, did I get it right? so you can use the 6 pin for one of the plugs in the GPU. The other 6 pin connection will need a molex - 6 pin adapter, and would go from a molex output in the PSU to a 6 pin input in the GPU. There's no splitting connectors there, or do you mean spliting the 12V rail?
December 6, 201114 yr Author Yes mate it is a 6+2 connector, I have had a good look inside the case and cannot see a molex output on the PSU. As it is a 6+2 pin does that mean it really is not designed to supply the graphics card ?
December 6, 201114 yr Author Great advice here, I will take the case cover off and have another look. Thanks again for your time.
December 6, 201114 yr If this is your PSU, it has 2 molex periferal) connectorsHave you considered getting a good PSU by the way?
December 6, 201114 yr Author Yes brilliant, got it at last. Thankyou for the photos torkermax and yes Daz that is my PSU. I am going to take your advice and see if I can get a refund on the PSU as I don't think it is up to the job from the shop that built it. Is the Gigabyte 750w much better ? I think I may get offered that as a part exchange on an upgrade. Thanks once again. Really helpful people on this forum.....
