December 5, 201114 yr REX2.0 OD with ASE...there are ten themes in REX to load and then have ASE archive those textures for callup in FSX...1. Start with "Enviroment" textures and go one by one down the dawn/sunrise textures one by one (load each one) individually, once they are all loaded hit the "Day" tab and load each day enviroment indiviudually, etc then go to the "Clouds" themes and load each cloud texture individually, etc?2. Randomize each load of all the themes, allowing the computer to "mix 'em up" instead for 20 or 30 times?3. Select handpicked themes 20 or so times?Number "1" above I guess ultimately would give you the best variety of textures available for ASE to call up - but extremely time consuming. As another thought, do most of you REX/ASE users tend to just switch out the Enviroment and Cloud themes, leaving the others unchanged?Thank you guys and gals! I'm finally tweaking FSX to the point where after two weeks I'll actually be able to sit down and do nothing but fly. I'm sure we can all relate...
December 5, 201114 yr Moderator The beauty of ASE is it's flexibility. You could answer all of the above. The simplest way for me - load a theme and customize it. I don't like REX clouds so I use something else and they have nothing that deals with the overcast layer. I try other vendor Sun, Moon water, roads, etc until I get a theme that I like and then save it in ASE. Then I repeat as necessary. You can have several bad weather themes and several good weather. So, do what looks good to you - after all - you are the one that'[s going to be flying in that environment. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 5, 201114 yr Author Great...thanks for the reply!Though I must say, I think you are one of the first that I have heard that DOESN'T like REX clouds! Are there clouds out there that look "better" i.e. more realistic that I can load into ASE? Darnit, 'cuz that's why I spent the money on REX in the first place was for it's graphics...ugh!Thanks again!
December 6, 201114 yr Commercial Member Hi,There are other alternatives, for example many find FEX to better suit their tastes. AS2012 is just around the corner. Each add-on has a different style, different designer(s) with different goals, different source imagery, etc. For AS2012 for example, we wanted to provide something different (than what was previously available). We tried to find the perfect balance between detail and smoothness to get good looks at different distances from cloud sprites (up close and far away). It had to be photo-realistic and high resolution but at the same time not look "out of place" in the sim. We also spent much time finding the ideal alpha blending style to provide realistic detail and depth (where its supposed to be) without clouds appearing too thin. So for us the goal was about high-quality, high-definition photo-realism while utilizing techniques to give the best results in as many situations as possible. It took over 3 years work to get it right. Anyhow, each add-on has different strengths, and different styles. It's quite subjective. The great thing about AS is that you can use whatever graphics (or combinations of graphics) you have. Same applies to AS2012, it includes 16GB+ of graphics but also still integrates with your existing add-ons. Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
