February 11, 200422 yr When I download realtime weather I see windows telling me that realtime weather is downloaded. But then I never see this window again. Is this normal? Is weather downloaded without showing any messages about it?Also is the weather downloaded always what it is in reality at the time of downloading even when the simulator time is different from current real tim
February 11, 200422 yr Could be but probably not because the weather at airports is fully updated once an hour and there will be revisions to cover visibility loss (if major), ceiling downgrade (if major), so basically if the field goes from IFR to VFR or vis versa.
February 11, 200422 yr Have you also noticed that once the scenery that you are starting in has loaded you never see that loading screen in the same flight again? it would disrupt the flight if it did, i mean what if it kicked in when you were on final etc...James
February 12, 200422 yr really? hmm well sorry then but i havent seen any before, but i would assume that the weather is collected in the background nevertheless...cheersJames
February 12, 200422 yr I believe it is...you'll occasionaly see the whole picture 'jerk' and then a whole new cloud formation will appear, or an existing one will just dissapear!! If you turn the 'frequency' setting down in the weather page settings, I think it takes longer for the changes to happen so you'll see fewer abrupt changes. At least, that's how it appears to me.....
February 12, 200422 yr It does it in the background... Turn off you internet connection, and in about 15 minutes you'll get this very annoying pop-up saying you internet connection is missing can not download weather.... :-outta http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/User_files/3e72a43942b48d2b.jpg There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown "My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
February 12, 200422 yr Author A message I would not find annoying is some information about in what way the weather has changed.Really I have discovered that ATIS is not available at all airport and in such case I have no clue aboute wind cloudheight etc. That is annoying.
February 12, 200422 yr I'm quite sure the weather does change regularly. At one time, I got taxi permission while VFR, but when I was at the runway, requesting departure, I got a negative reply from the tower, saying that the field was now IFR. February 13, 200422 yr re: not having ATIS at all airports - it's that way in real life too - e.g. many untowered airports. Typically you'll dial in a nearby airport that *does* have ATIS and use that.Having a printed sectional map (or else, a downloaded one like what some kind soul recently put up on Avsim for much or all of the US) is handy, as the ATIS/AWOS/ASOS frequency is printed on the map for airports that have one of those. Then, you can easily pick an airport close to your intended destination and check wx from there.Dave Blevins System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
February 13, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi,FS9's real weather system is nice, but leaves lots to be desired for those who are into weather realism. In your example, we solved this limitation in ActiveSky by providing voice FlightWatch. This simulates real world EFAS when tuned to 122.0 you get voice weather briefing for your destination wx (also works for current/closest wx via simulated ATIS). Of course there are also many other displays of wx including ActiveRadar tracking screen, AS2004 main interface, and the (optional) text wx update messages. It is understandable that MS can only focus so much on weather realism.. they have to make their software easy enough to be useful to the average user (non-pilot). Luckily with Pete Dowson's help we have been able to tap into FS9 wx and take things much, much further for those who can appreciate that sort of thing. We are not the only wx add-on around either. Take a look around, maybe stop by our forum or ask questions here... There are many options to improve your experience!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
February 13, 200422 yr Author In my case it eas the only airport on the Faerislnad. I suppose only minir airports lack ATIS?Yes I would like printed maps if I can find them. I miss those who were once supplied with FS.
