i7 2600K overclocking

Featured Replies

So I bought a new i7 2600k processor on an ASRock Z68 pro mobo a few months ago and thought it might be time to try and overclock it. Downloaded prime 95 and thought I'd test it at the stock 3.4 and with the stock cooler (which I plan to upgrade). However, after about 10 mins I noticed that the CPU temp had gone up to 80 degrees c!!?? Is this in any way normal for stock speeds with the stock fan? Any help appreciated. Sean

That's what I thought. Only thing I can think is that the interface between the chip and the cooler is bad. Or other than that a bad chip.

Pretty chilly, cold in the uk at the mo so I would guess in the high sixties so don't think that would be it.

Hi Sean,If you have just a stock Intel heat sink on, those temperatures would be about right. What is your cooling system?Kind regards,

Hi Sean.I run about 60C Max at 3.3, I5 2500K, stock cooler, with Prime95. TV

Celsius?

Did you try cleaning up the paste and all residuals and then applying it again? Maybe there is some dirt inbetween or something, causing cooler not to sit properly. Just pointing out.
I see no mention of the CPU cooler. Not advisible to OC without a good aftermarket cooler. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see those kind of temps with a stock cooler. They are intended for stock clock speeds. The higher the hotter. Its not uncommon to see aftermarket coolers drop temps by 20c, depending on the cooler. Good luck

To the OP. That really does seem normal for stock. Make sure the heat sink is seated properly, but I regularly see people getting mid 70s-low 80s at stock speed and the stock cooler. What's the default voltage you've got? Maybe even try bringing that down. These SB chips are pretty good at undervolting.
