December 22, 201114 yr Could somebody instruct me on how to fly this LDA approach? I've never done and LDA approach, and while I've read up on them, I'm still not totally sure how to go about it. This is the LDA into RWY 26L at PHNL. By the way, I've based it off of a real flight I found on FlightAware, and the waypoints SECIL and the following one, HEFTL (whose name is not shown in this graphic) appear to have been omitted. (Also, the altitude restriction for HEFTL is 1500').Thanks,boeing247 -Bram Osterhout
December 22, 201114 yr The only thing different about this approach is its offset from the runway by 45 degs, just pick up the runway visually (to your left ) turn, lineup and and land. The minimums for this approach are obviously higher , and the DH is 600's instead of the typical 200;.Regards.Ernie.
December 22, 201114 yr An LDA is a localizer that isn't aligned with the runway. This procedure leads you to a point in space (2.2 DME at 600') from which you should be able to see, turn in, and descend for runway 26L. Fly it just like any other non-precision approach.
December 22, 201114 yr Author So just follow the route and turn off LNAV at the end? Should I use VNAV or vertical speed to descend? -Bram Osterhout
December 22, 201114 yr I don't know what airplane you're flying, but a good FMS--not that many FSX airplanes have such a thing--would get you down to the MDA at 2.2 DME. After that you'll have to fly the thing!
December 22, 201114 yr Author I'm flying the Captain Sim Boeing 767-300, so I have a good FMS. Thanks! -Bram Osterhout
