Xp64 vs Win7 64 for a new FSX rig

Featured Replies

Getting ready to start a new I7 build for an FSX rig and I was wondering if upgrading to Win7 from Xp64 will be of any benefit to FSX?JBSent from my iPhone using TapatalkJB

Specifically to FSX? Not really. But some addons don't work with XP anymore... XP64 was one of the best FS OS's... heck XP in general was my favorite OS.

So no memory management improvements either? If there is really no advantage then obviously staying with xp will probably be the way I will go.JBSent from my iPhone using TapatalkJB

If you want an honest perspective, from a normal user like me: I feel it would be worth it because I like to keep my hardware aligned (same generation) with my software. Sometimes it feels things flow better that way.For instance I run Microsoft Office 2010 with Win7x64. Granted the old one I had Office 97 or 2003 can't recall didn't work with Win7... lolAnyway, XP was such a lite OS that's why I liked it so much. Win7 is heavy on performance if you're running, say, an office only machine. But since this is the flight sim forums you wouldn't have any issues switching over. However some of your old games might not work. A lot of my older games don't work with Win7x64.

A new build is worth a new OS. Get Win 7 64 and you'll be glad you did.

So finished the new build and been simming for about 3-4 days and it's great.I took everyone advice and decided against spending the extra money on a new OS and just stuck with XP64. I have no reason to upgrade to be honest. As long as XP runs FSX great and as well as 7, then I can't find any reason...Just wanted to let ya all know I appreciate the advice and help.JB
