January 2, 201214 yr Is there a tool for that?I would like to make some space in my drive and I am sure some are not used?ThanksGhiom
January 2, 201214 yr Unless you have removed the associated sceneries with those textures I personally wouldn't start deleting textures... You never know the dependencies and the negative repercussions that could arise from missing textures...HDD space is dirt dirt cheap, not worth risking the stability of your install imho...-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
January 2, 201214 yr Is there a tool for that?I would like to make some space in my drive and I am sure some are not used?ThanksGhiomThere is a freeware program called Find All Duplicates V 2.4It is French but there's an English translation. It won't remove any duplicate textures from your hard drive - it will move them into a special folder within each scenery. I would suggest you do a backup (to an external drive if you have one) and then try deleting them a folder at a time, crank up that scenery and make sure it's working okay. Scruffy Duck also has a freeware utilities that will do the same thing with scenery objects...Paul's advice above is good though - there is always some risk in doing stuff like this, but it might speed up load timesGood luckIan Edited January 2, 201214 yr by kiwiflyer45
January 2, 201214 yr Thanks Ian,For speeding up loading times I learned a long time ago to disable all scenery add-ons not in use for my particular flight...For example, If I am doing KEWR-EGLL the only add-on airports I have enabled are Heathrow and Newark. It takes 2 seconds as part of my pre-flight to enable whatever scenery i need and make AES active but the plus side is I am not loading 100 irrelevant sceneries from half way around the globe for every flight... It is a much more efficient use of FS and memory.... the tough part was going through the first time and disabling everything... From that point forward it is just go in and enable wahtever you are using and leave everything else disabled. My load times are non-existant...Just my .02 but it has been working well for me for years...Paul Edited January 2, 201214 yr by psolk Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
January 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member I WOULD NOT use find all duplicates if I were you, it will make a mess gauranteed and there's no way to revert once the damage is done.Jim
January 2, 201214 yr What you say is right on target, Paul. Any scenery outside of your flight plan is excess baggage.
January 2, 201214 yr Author Well...I wasn't talking about duplicate textures. Just unused ones.It seems like there is no way, right?Ghiom
