January 4, 201214 yr Commercial Member Hi guys,Just bought a new sound card, Asus Xonar Xense [anyone else using this or similar]At the tech guys, I read ages ago, that changing the defaults in sound sample rate, messes with FSX is this true? This is similar to what I have at the moment Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
January 9, 201214 yr the best way to tell is use your ears.some older apps do have issues with unusual sample rates, or if you switch sample rates while the app is running, but i think most newer audio drivers and win7 seem to handle it pretty gracefully.if you're worried about compatibility, most game-type apps these days are still using 44k/16 or 48k/16 for their final output stage.... but if the higher ones seem to be working there's no reason to avoid them.cheers-andy crosby

January 9, 201214 yr Is there more load on the processor?i think windows does a resampling pass on apps sharing the device anyway before it sends it to the card so i don't think there's really a difference.but hey, try it each way and see if you notice a difference. at least as far as fsx is concerned, using higher sample rates and bit depths won't really be noticeable anyway. very few sources take advantage of that...basically like some blu-ray discs etc, or if you're doing audio recording/mixing there's also many reasons to stick with the higher resolution but that's a whole different topic.cheers-andy crosby

January 9, 201214 yr Not what you were asking Alex, but when I installed my Xonar DS I started having multiple CTD's in FSX, turned out it was because of GX. Switching off GX in the Xonar Audio Center got rid of those CTD's.Just in case it happens to you too at some point Edited January 9, 201214 yr by dazz

January 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member Leave it at 16-bit 44.1 - that's the standard for consumer audio - you can't hear the difference, trust me. Upsampling a lower bitrate source to a higher one does nothing to improve the quality either - if the information isn't there in the first place you can't invent it out of thin air.I have a Xonar DX btw. January 11, 201214 yr Can i ask a question regarding sound....?I bought a pair of skullcandy lowrider headphones today (for home dj'ing purposes) which i will use with the pc too and decided to have a fiddle with the sound settings in my realtek hd audio manager, i selected some sound fx, living room/powerfull and it sounds waaaay better in the NGX but whenever i click the flaps/landing gear or a switch on the overhead panel the engine/ambiance sound dips to give way to the click...it does come back straight away but its annoying. Is there a way round this without having to turn the fx off?Cheers chaps. Edited January 11, 201214 yr by christos Chris Howard
January 11, 201214 yr Commercial Member Christos,That might be because the two sounds are coming from different sources - in the NGX the engine sounds come from FSX, but the panel sounds come from our own custom sound processor. It sounds like the Realtek driver is fading the FSX source when a sound plays from the PMDG source.... check for a setting in the driver relating to that maybe? At any rate though, added spatial effects like that aren't really going to be realistic for the NGX - there's no reverb or anything like that in the cockpit in real life - too many sharp angles etc - the sound reflections get scattered. January 11, 201214 yr RyanThanks for your detailed explanation there m8, it looks like i'll have to turn the fx off...tbh i was trying for more bass into that deep rumble sound through 40-50% throttle but hey..modern technology!! Chris Howard
