Phenom II X6 1055T vs. Intel Core i5 2500K

Featured Replies

Hi,I've got a Phenom II X6 1055T and I fly with FSX. With some sceneries like detailed cities or airports, I experience some performances drops.Do you think an Intel i5 2500K will be the best choice with my GeForce GTX 260 ?Thank you.

You should get a higher frame rate on a i5 2500K but you might end up with longer time for textures to sharpen up since FSX uses multiple cores for texture loading but then again the IPC of the i5 2500k is higher than the Phenom II x6 1055T and also it runs at a higher clock speed so those factors might compensate for having less cores on the i5 2500k than the phenom II x6 in terms of texture loading speed. If you play other games then the i5 2500k is faster than the Phenom II x6 1055T by a huge amount since most games don't use more than 4 cores at this time. I think that an i5 2500k is a good upgrade from an Phenom II x6 1055T if you just play games.

That's an overly-wordy way of saying:The 2500k would run FSX exceptionally/markedly/way way better than your 1055T. As for "texture sharpening", you'll notice the 2500k has the edge there too (ie no blurries). The GTX 260 was a good card in it's day, but it won't like higher AA with clouds and autogen.
