Thread to sum things up and where to go

Featured Replies

Okay, this thread is for the cool down and for a starting point to look forwards, with clear mind:1. Flight was a let down for hard core simmers expecting Flight to follow FS trail:- This can be stated pretty sure fact unless next week brings something whole new and unexpected to the table from FS. Unlikely !!!- Even if Flight is success with more casual players, it is seen at its best as a platform to more serious sims (FSX, P3D, XPX etc.); in this sense may serve sim genre somewhat well2. Legacy of FS-series:- FSX continues to be the most popular option at least for a while; it has huge user base and many of those are disappointed with Flight, even if it will be a success with more casual players- Many important 3rd party developers continue support with FSX making it a viable platform for years to come with good addons (which cost money, but many of us have these already). See above statement.- FSX has its lifespan: there will be a time, when it is not good enough. We need something better sooner or later- Basic FSX option is now just costing 30$ as Gold; MS may stop printing these in near future3. The Followers:3.1. XPX- Nice platform, with good possibilites. Release of demo didn't assure at least many of the long time FSX owners who have brought old FSX to new decade with beautiful addons who at least in some cases offer a lot more than XPX can; egg-chicken situation for XPX; addons!!!- Some developers state that even old FSX has more possibilites than FSX; addons!!!- Promising platform, but future is bit uncertain from FSX-pilot perspective; addons!!!3.2 Prepar3D- True follower of FS series; based on the same code as FSX, so for FSX addon producers this should have pretty easy transition as for example ORBX shows, some are compatible nearly or out of the box. Future versions of P3D are unkown in this matter.- LM:s contribution for a long term, is clearly, little hazy; what is their business model? I believe it is not home pilots.- Licence fees are steep for many virtual pilots, many consider them okay though- Possibilities to bring true professional simulation software to everyone's homes is here: LM targets their product for commercial pilot training and possibly military use! And this is in our and 3rd party devs reach!- It would be cool to fly with perfectly modeled F-104 in the sim with Lockheed Martin logo on one's simulation software :joke:  :partjoke:3.3 Flight- See section 13.4 Best combat sims- There are actually plenty; RoF, DCS-series and in the future possibly CoD or followers, Tripwire and great mods such as Rising Sun: But they aren't of modern civilian aviation, which is the main point here!!!So, here is something to go forward. My opions many but many gathered from discussions here.I leave the rest to you, brothers and sisters! Forgive me possible clumsy english. It is not my native, but I believe finnish would leave you more disoriented. I have also holiday tomorrow, and I've enjoyed a bit fine french gognac, so this may be one reason for some mistakes B)CheersGrunt

So many sims are so cheap, they are cheaper thana lot of fsx addons. There is a lot to do in the flighsim world if you want to branch out a little bit. DCS has an excellent a10 and hellicoptor, although not everyones taste. They will release a GA sim as well according to a recent statement. Cliffs of dover was a huge mess but is progressing and can give a really immersive experience of flight. A lot of people just fly these for fun, never a bomb landed ) None of these to me could be my only sim, the same as civilian simming cannot fill my flight simming desires. if you can pick and choose and try different things there is a lot out there.

Until last summer I was pretty much purely a combat simmer, so I know what I'm talking about. Avsim is mostly civilian aviation, though.

I wasn't meaning to contradict anything you were saying, just adding to the knowledge.

None taken, my point in my original post was just merely to show that combat sims are not option for FSX: I love them, but many FSX or XPX pilots seem to have no interest in them. And they are by no means competitors.

Agreed, I don't think a lot of civilian simmers realise the current state of a simulator like DCS:A10. If you are in to learning systems then this is as good as you will get anywhere, gps, flight computers, failures, everything in an awesome aircraft. It is a really good study simulation, same as blackshark. You dont even have to touch the weapons systems and you have a hell of a lot on your plate to learn the rest.

I agree, I've been watching this fourm for awhile expecting something exciting in Flight. Now that I know it's not there it's time to move on, I unfollowed the Flight fourm and now looking at what I can do to make FSX into a better sim.
