Garmin GNS530 plugin that works quite well

Featured Replies

For those that didn't know about this, newcomers and guys like me, here is a Garmin GNS 530 plugin that works quite well. Has some snags but overall is quite usable.http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=9620Glen

For a free gauge it truly is fabulous, not quite as functional is some areas as the RXP gauge for FSX but it is a vast improvement over the s*** (sorry there really is no other word for it) GPS that comes with X-Plane.A couple of points you should be aware of if you are thinking of buying the RXP gauge for XPX, one it doesn't work in XP10 at all, it needs updating, and two RealityXP are not answering any emails, (according to many forum posts I've read over the last 3 months) nor have they visited the only support forum there is for RealityXP products. The last time Jean Luc did visit the forum was at the end of September 2011.

Cheers, Andy.

Also,I used this post to update with.http://www.simforums.com/Forums/nav-database-update-via-new-garmin-trainers_topic39731.html

Thanks for the update on the new trainers. I've installed it, and it's possible to migrate the navdata and obstacles file to the GNS430/530 trainer very easy, legal and its' free. The trainer gets updated to airac 1106 (Jun-11) and obstacle database 11B3 (Jun-11). Follow next instructions: 1-Install Trainer GTN series from following link:
2-Go to directory (on Win7) C:ProgramDataGarminGTN Trainerdb 3-Make a copy of AVTN_WWW_DB.bin and rename to worldwide.bin 4-Copy terrain.odb and worldwide.bin to GNS430 trainer directory (in my system C:Program FilesGarminGNS400W-500W TrainerTrainer). Backup original files first! 5-Run trainer and it should show the obstacles and airac database updated. Cheers, Jose

Andy,I believe JL has gone the commercial route. This would explain his absense. I'll note here, that in other forums, a warning about commercial interests and the dangers facing the sim community is circulating.

Mike, can you explain this, I don't understand what you're saying.Glen

Hi Glen,Sorry for being overly vague. It's a slippery slope I tread upon. There have been warning signs in the forums, about commercial grade flight sims that would show interest in some of our 3rd party devs. RealityXP is an example of what can happen when commercial interests take precedence. You no longer get support, no updates, nada. I don't want to add more to this, but I know several people will understand who I'm referring to.
