January 10, 201214 yr He guys, i purchased this nice plane a while ago, but i can finally use it now since i had SP1 and now i bought accelaration.Normally i fly the B2 Islander and i have no problem using it for an ils landing, program the ils frequency line up, and once i hit the localizer i press app and voila ils is working. Now in my first flight with the Carenado Caravan i was planning on doing an ils landing as well since it was really misty, i had the ils frequency installed in the radio 109.50 for plymouth which is a vor/dme ILS system. I have landed there with ils in the Islander no problem, but my Caravan is not responding to the glideslope at all, what am i missing here ? autopilot was set to nav, but app doesn't seem to work on this plane, the needles where functioning without a problem so i could land it manually but doesn't this plane have an autopilot to follow the glideslope or am i missing something vital here ?thanks in advance! January 10, 201214 yr Check and make sure your GPS/NAV source switch is set to NAV. I've been... errr, "people I know" have been caught on that one a few times :(
January 10, 201214 yr tested and it is working 100% and even the glideslopeare you sure you set the NAV1 and not as a friend of mine that has tried to set it on the radios.
January 10, 201214 yr Also tested it with 500 meter visibility and AP with APP modeWork a treat.catching ILSahhh nice to see the runway popup where expected.. Edited January 10, 201214 yr by bliksimpie
January 10, 201214 yr Yeah yeah I am trying to get better.. Unfortunately I will never get close to your hours captain. So at least we have something still to aspire to..! :(
January 10, 201214 yr Actually, he thought he was breaking out for LAX. Turns out it was BOS <LOL>. Just kidding with ya bliksimpie .I really suspect he has the NAV/GPS switch set to GPS. I... errr, BERNT () did that once and the ILS never came "alive". That would be my guess anyway. Hope he comes back to confirm or deny - it would be interesting to know.[EDIT] - just in case anyone is taking me seriously, it wasn't Bernt who forgets to switch the Nav/GPS switch, and bliksimpie really does know what he's doing on an ILS approach. I'm just giving these guys the gears because they are friends and very good natured. Edited January 10, 201214 yr by BeaverDriver
January 10, 201214 yr The only thing I have noticed is that it really lags in catching the glide slope, so you usually stay very high, unless you catch it higher about 2-3 miles from the FAF. That also might be Daffers problem, getting anxious seeing the glide slope dive away caused me to say whoa the first time I used the AP for an ILS approach until I let it do it's thing and saw how it lagged in catching it. And agreed with BeaverDriver, should be interesting. Regards,Kyle

He kinda felt a bit embarrassed.. so yeah we will not name names here. Edited January 10, 201214 yr by bliksimpie

January 10, 201214 yr Yeah, I've ha... seen that problem too. Interesting though - I think the #2 VOR head also is ILS capable in the Caravan. I've not tried it but it appears as though there is a GS bar there. I'll have a gander at that this evening as it would be rather a handy thing just in case (of course, it can also lead to more "finger trouble in the cockpit"). You guys are sure right about the lag issue. I've seen that in most planes, and of course the greater your speed, the worse it will be. I get a "little bump" in the 210, but a whole lot bigger a one in the Lear. I often try to intercept further out as has been suggested here where the needles are a bit less sensitive and you are a bit higher and have more time to stabilize on the approach.

January 11, 201214 yr yip you are right indeed..Beat me to it! Always fun to chase the two bars, more old-school. Regards,Kyle
January 11, 201214 yr Don't want to promise too much but IF I get to re-engine the 208, I'll look into the ILS GS tracking. Just tried it and it's really very lazy in tracking it precisely.
