"Terrain" on Nav Display question

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone:Does anyone know what the 3 digit numbers indicate on the Nav Display beneath the Terain Diaplay? When I select "Terr" to display the Terrain, there are 2 lines of 3 digit numbers, sometimes green or yellow that appear. Perhaps they are indications of compass coordinates? Anyone? Thanks,Chris Catalano

Those are max/min heights in 100's of feet for the area displayed in the ND. If there is yellow or red, it is a warning that there is terrain that may be an obstacle, given your current altitude.* Orest

OK, thanks. Now, when I see those numbers, is this only for terrain that is directly in my current flight path? I mean, if it says 043 as a maximum, where exactly is the particular piece of terrain that is 430 ft - is it just somewhere in my vicinity to the left or right, or is it necessarily directly ahead of me? I notice that some of the "shading" in the depiction of terrain is darker green than others, so I presume that is the higher terrain? I am just not sure now where exactly the particular terrain is that is indicated by the numbers...Thanks again!Chris Catalano

No, the number shows the altitude of the highest peak currently displayed anywhere on the ND. The shading metholodgy is explained in the FCOM.

043 is 4300 ft... and from what I read it's in the coverage depicted on the gauge.
