Why can't we pull it together?

Considering they already have global coverage and major metro area on the shelf (think back to FSX), not very long indeed.
I haven't seen anything reliable about Flight having global coverage out of the box.....have you? You're not implying that because FSX had it, surely Flight must have it.....are you? Not sure that line of reasoning has gotten us anywhere in the first place.
My flying is 99% on guages, procedures, tuning, keeping level, throttle, etc. I like seeing a city and airport when I take off and land, but the enroute scenery is the least important. I like flying a lot more than looking. I know, everyone is different.
If you don't care about what's outside of your cockpit once you're airborne, then yes, everyone is different indeed. On some level I also envy you, because it sounds like you'll enjoy Flight immensely while others (possibly including myself) will grow bored with its limited scope.

Read again his post.Global coverage, in low quality, London and tokio in high quality
So far we do not know if there will be global coverage in any quality at all.

You're wanting to equate a two year time period to just the development of the Hawaiian Islands, but I'd offer that only a small portion of that time was spent on the terrain. Most of the time would be spent dumping the old code and then putting in the code for GFWLive and GFWMarketplace. With respects to the generating of new scenery, yes a lot of what was in FSX could be reused in Flight. FSX brought Microsoft into a GIS standard file format. So your shapefile for coastlines or rivers or lakes are still available and most certainly usable in Flight. Terrain mesh wouldn't involve any changes, other than running it through a compiler for the Flight format. Looking at the preview pictures it appears that there has been a lot of autogen/scenery object work, but that Flight is still calling a numbered texture to be applied at a specified location, in all it's 1.2km glory!Where Flight differs from FSX and prior versions appears at the airports. That will take a little time and effort, but it wouldn't surprise me one little bit to see a lot of that work contracted out.I am hoping that there will be some new DLC not too long after Flight's release. While I enjoy flying around the islands on a quite regular basis, I fear the more "hardcore simmer" who needs there new content fix on a regular basis may soon start to go into withdrawls and abandon the Flight franchise.Should make for an interesting Spring, don't ya think?

Uhmmm. . .your original argument was that Hawaii took a really long time to make, ergo the rest of the world would take until the next century to make. So I said that it would not take long because it's already been made. To answer your "follow up", no I haven't seen anything that says Flight will have "global coverage out of the box". I'm quite certain on Feb 29th it won't. The point is that "global coverage" is on the shelf and can be sold in the hundreds-of-thousands, maybe millions, of units. It would seem rather silly to never sell a digital product with multi-million dollar potential, don't you think?

Actually, as it stands, Flight won't as much fun for me as it's opposite of what I like the most. Eye-candy is fine, but IFR flight is more my thang. I don't think Feb 29th will be too IFR friendly.
