Correct order to install scenery/addons

Featured Replies

Is there a correct order to install addons like ground enviroment, ultimate terrain europe etc, and scenery into a new Windows 7.That is, should GE, ultimate terrain etc, be installed before all other scenery or doesnt it matter where they are in the scenery cfg? Thanks for your helpSteve

GE is all textures so it doesn't really matter when you install it. For a new installation, I'd install UT before any other scenery since it has a fairly extensive directory structure and is a pain to move around.DJ
Thanks for that DJSteve
If you use Megascenery or something similar that affects a region, you might want to install those before you install individual airports. (As with UT) Also, if you use sceneries that use common models/textures like MAIW, you would be well to install those before you installed the sceneries that need to use those models and textures. My advice is that anything that affects the "base" scenery like mesh addons, UT, Megascenery etc would be best installed first and then any airports that overlay that "base" afterwards.

Thanks for that PennkiwiI usually edit the scenery.cfg file manually and wonder if you could clarify this doubtI've had all these years as regards the order of entries. As you know the last default scenery entry is Area 38 Addon Scenery, so taking this exampleI place my scenery entries immediately after Area 38 in the order shown below, last entry havingthe highest area number in the scenery.cfgMeshUTPhotosceneriesLandclassIndividual Sceneries (Airports, etc.)However I've seen some scenery instructions where theysuggest it'd be done this way:UTPhotosceneriesIndividual Sceneries (Airports, etc.)LandclassMeshHave to admit I always use the first method unless specifically instructed by the author. An example is one of the Red Baron meshes I have for NZ where Topo & Mesh havethe last and highest number entries in the config file. What I'd like to know if indeed there is any noticeable differences either way.Regards
