February 5, 201214 yr So, I just thought of a crazy idea for improving X-Plane 10 Ground Handling. It would really make it even more interesting for FS users, who have suffered from ridiculous ground handling by Microsoft for years. Why don't consider hiring one of the guys who do the tire model for racing simulators to do the same but with X-Plane? I don't mean doing at the level iRacing and others are doing, simulating every little detail, but even a 2 to 3 year old simulator has a much better tire physics than any flight simulator, it's just a matter of adapting that into an airplane proportion.Imagine accurate grip, handling, brake feel, tire locking, landing in crosswind, all that would feel so much better with better tire physics.Just an idea Alexis Mefano
February 6, 201214 yr So nobody likes my idea, or just consider it unviable? It's unviable. The center of mass of a plane on the runway is much higher than in any car.and the aerodynamics have a totally different approach. In a plane you want to get up, in a car the aerrodynamics hold you down. Karsten Schubert
February 7, 201214 yr So nobody likes my idea, or just consider it unviable? I think it would be a pretty idea, the only problem is that I don't see Austin letting someone else "fiddle" with any part of physics inside X-Plane. For the little I know him from all these years, I think all X-Plane physics modeling is "his thing" only. :-)Actually some years ago Austin began developing a racing simulator called X-Racing, but its development was then stopped. The tire modeling etc. was then subsequently translated inside X-Plane.Actually, ground physics inside X-Plane is quite complex (much more than FSX) but has still flaws. You could try submitting Austin your idea, who knows... :-PMarco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
February 7, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the comments guy.I'm talking about Friction between surface and the tires, not aerodynamics. I don't like the feel of the aircraft barely able to mantain directional control while under V1 speed, imagine in Real Life if a 777 with 15 crosswind taking off heavy with a Vr around 160 reacted like it would on X-Plane. Man.... That would make every takeoff a accident about to happen.Well, since he almost built a racing simulator, he must know how important tire model is, even on a Flight Simulator. I believe it's much better than the non existent physics from FS, but there's still a long way before it feels like real tire, like in DCS- A10 Sim. That sim makes you want to taxi forever, feels of good and realistic. Alexis Mefano
February 7, 201214 yr Commercial Member Tire friction is adjustable through Planemaker. Further fine tuning can be done through plug ins.
