ILS approach is incorrect??

Featured Replies

I installed the USA (beta) landclass from FSGenesis & a terrain mesh by Rob Gainer (for the Northeast part of USA)at the same time. Now my ILS for KAVP (possibly others, havent checked) is incorrect. It was accurate B4 the add ons. If I follow the ILS heading I will not land on the runway. I would touchdown to the left from either approach side. The glideslope is correct.Which add on likely caused the problem, the landclass or the mesh?TIAJim

Jim:I installed those same programs and also noticed your observation. It is easily corrected by using AFCAD2 which, I believe, can be found in the library. It will allow you to center the ILS to the runway so that you will no longer be landing in the taxiway on approach to Rwy 22.There is also a mesh problem with New York City using Rob Gainers Northeast mesh program. The rivers around of, and part of lower Manhattan, have rolling hills of water. Rob acknowledges this anomaly. It is also easily corrected by using a program, if I recall correctly, called FSUtilities, which is an easy step program to make your own flatten files. I also used this program to flatten the wall of water at the end of rwy 26 at KLCI, Laconia, NH.Chris

Thanks for the reply Chris.I was aware of the water walls in the NYC area (as Rob pointed out) but I've been away from flight sims for some time & am just now trying to sort through all the available programs such as AFCAD2 & FSUtilities and am sowly figure out what they do & how to use them.I'll give AFCAD a try to fix the ILS approach 1st.I'm very impressed with what these 2 add ons did for the original scenery & terrain, it added a whole new dimension to flying. Thanks to the authors for sharing their hard work.

That an interesting observation. I'd love to hear which of these is causing the problem because niether landclass nor mesh should alter facilities data...Best,sg

I didn't think that a mesh or landclass would change the ILS either. But something has changed it & these are the only 2 add on's I installed.Anyone with a better understanding of these care to venture a guess?

Using AFCAD2 I was able to correct the ILS. Thanks for the tip Chris.

Hi.I do not think the added scenery is the problem, test it yourself, just disable it in the Library. The original ILS / Scenery has the ILS Localizer shifted right by a few hundred feet. TV

Glad you have the localizer re-positioned and I would be happy to e-mail the flatten file I created for the NYC water problem. Just let me know your address.Chris

That would be much appreciated if you could Chris.email to [email protected] again.Oh... That was the 1st time I ever used AFCAD. I noticed that there were 4 localizers for KAVP, 2 on each end of the runway (4 & 22). I would have expected to see only 2, 1 on each end. Is 4 normal?

Good question Jim. I honestly don't know. I would have thought one at each end also. Maybe someone else can chime in here. Will drop you the file tonight as I'm at work now.Chris
