Lionheart Quest Kodiak error

Featured Replies

I just purchased and installed Lionheart's Quest Kodiak (build 2.6) for FS2004. However, immediately after selecting the plane in the FS2004 menu, the sim crashes instantly. I usually load the Kodiak from the default flight scenario.Does anyone have a similar problem with this addon? Does anyone know what I could do to make this plane work? I have Win7 x64. All other addons work without any problems. Thanks!

I have had the Kodiak for years and never had a problem - running on Win7 64 bit. Sorry that is not much help. Maybe contact Bill Ortis directly via email?

Ok, thank you. I just sent him an e-mail - if I get a response I will post it here.I even installed the performance pack to see if it is a texture problem, but that didn't fix it. I wonder if it is a panel problem? The FSX version works fine for me.

HII can only confirm that the Kodiak runs just fine in Win7 32bit. However, you will find Bill Ortis a very helpful guy and he responds promptly.David

By chance, are you using nhancer and setting your AA to combined or supersampling? I am using Vista 32bit and if I have my AA set to any of the settings in combined or supersampling modes, FS9 crashes as soon as I select the Kodiak. The same thing happens with Flight 1's Commander 112. Once I change the AA in nhancer to multisampling, both aircraft open fine.

Well, it seems that nobody here has been able to help you but have you taken up the suggestions given to contact Bill Ortis direct via Lionheart's website? Doc Brown, above, said he would contact Bill and post back here but he has so far not done so. I do earnestly suggest you contact Bill as he is a very helpful person and may well be able to give you some pointers as to what is happening. If you do get this sorted please post back how the issue has been resolved so that others may benefit as well.David

I am not sure if this helps you, but this is Bill's response when I told him about my CTD issue:"Mainly, you need the soundgauge.dll file in the main FS folder. Also, if you are booting up into the 2D panel view and have a very wide screen and resolution isnt the same in FS as it is in Windows Desktop, then you might experience a crash. Its extremely rare and usually only with powerful graphics cards on 3 screen monitor setups. The squashing of the PFD and MFD screens can cause freekish results with super wide screens. I guess GC's do not render the gauges flattened very well. If this is the case, try going into Windows mode, play around with screen resolutions, and even doing a copy/paste of the panel config file and comment out the PFD and MFD gauges from the 2D main panel section."I ended up loading the Kodiak in windowed mode, and it worked fine. Then I switched back to full screen mode for flying. However, after about 1-2 hours of flying, I still get a CTD - only when flying the Kodiak.Sorry I didn't post this earlier...BTW, Bill responded about one hour after I e-mailed him.

Thanks, Doc, for posting Bill's reply. The graphics card does seem to be a distinct possibility for the errors. I recall that when MAAM released an upgrade for their excellent DC-3/C47 some of us, myself included, could not go through the engine start up sequence any more - we had to rely on Ctrl+E. Ugh!! Eventually it was discovered that certain video cards were the culprit. I changed mine - a bit drastic, but there you are - and everything was fine afterwards.Do you have a spare card you could use, or borrow? I assume you have up to date drivers installed?Hope this helps in some way.David

Thanks David. It could be my video card, but I am stuck with it because I am using a laptop. Oh well, at least the Kodiak is flyable. Some day I will get a better system...

Thank you for taking the time to post the results of your contacting Bill. The thing is, I already am in windowed mode, but I also do not have a high end computer, even for fs2004 standards, my graphics "card" is an integrated one, and my frame rates are atrocious. What I have noticed is that when I select the Kodiak, the textures on the plane take a while to load while still in the selection menu, my CTD happens when I go to fly, It immediately crashes, nothing starts loading.I have not had that problem with any other aircraft, level D, PMDG, QW, etc.

I had the same issue. Now, before loading the plane I press Alt-Enter to go to windowed mode, then I select the Kodiak, and when in the VC or 2D panel I press Alt-Enter again to go back to full screen mode. That worked for me. I suppose it could be the video card.

Ah, laptops and PCs with integrated graphics cards. They can quite often not be up to doing the job as they are not powerful enough. Trying to run FS9 on my laptop with any of the sliders turned up beyond 50% and the whole thing starts going off-beam. The PFD and MFD displays on the Kodiak need quite a bit of graphics horsepower IMHO and especially in the VC. I think there is a very strong possibility that this is where your problems lie. It's a great pity as the Kodiak really is a superb a/c to fly.Good luck in the future.David

You are right David, I bought this computer before getting into flight sim, and I do need to upgrade soon. I even have a copy of FSX, which I can't even try.It clearly seems that the kodiak does need better graphics installed, even on windowed mode like docbrown suggested, it was slightly better, at least then it starts to load, but crashes after 15 seconds.
