February 12, 201214 yr Hey there guys/gals.....I'm a bit confused, and was hoping someone could help. I've been flying the PMDG 737-700 and I've got what I think everything setup for a autoland. I've got both Navs set to the ILS frequency, switched over to APP, my CMD A is on and working, but I select the 2nd autopilot and it stays on for a few seconds then shuts off. Both F/D's are on, the realistic A/P is off in the setup of the FMC, so I'm not getting the aircraft to flare. Any thoughts?Bill JohnsonHi Bill, which Airport and Runway ILS are you having problems. I shall try and recreate the approach.Regards Dave. Dave Baggs. EGLL.
February 12, 201214 yr I have the same problem. Both with FAIL OPERATIONAL and FAIL PASSIVE autopilots I am still not able to autoland. I have Collins Autopilot, Digital standby instrument and no HUD.I select the ils frequency on both nav radios, i set both courses in the correct way (aligned on the number as stated on the fmc), both FDs are on and I catch the GS from below. I press the APP button (LOC and GS arms or FAC and GS arms) but when I press the second autopilot button (CMD B for example) the system just swap the APs. And the PFD still says "single channel".I have this behaviour since I installed the aircraft in august and all the updates (till version SP1b) didn't change the things.Any suggestions? :DThanksLorenzo Chiovaro
February 12, 201214 yr when I press the second autopilot button (CMD B for example) the system just swap the APsWait until G/S is intercepted and the speed window is 'open' (and you can set Vref) and then try to press the 2nd AP again.
February 12, 201214 yr Thanks Jeroen. I think I've already tried to arm the second autopilot once the G/S has been captured and the speed window allows to select Vref. But I'm not sure of this. I will try again soon and then I will report here if it worked or not :)Regards,Lorenzo
February 12, 201214 yr Hello everybody!! I have just tried but sadly nothing changed. I'm still not able to make an autoland. :(Am I perhaps missing something? :SRegardsLorenzo
February 12, 201214 yr Author At least I'm not the only one in this boat...... or plane... :)Dave,Trying to land into Vegas, Rw 25L,according to the charts, I hit Prino at 8,000. I guess perhaps I have a few questions. 1. Where should I be intercepting heading, and at what point should I hit the APP button to even attempt the 2nd AP?Thanks,Bill
February 12, 201214 yr Just a question that arose when I saw a video on youtube some minutes ago.Does the aircraft need to be fully configured when I hit the second AP button? I mean does it need to have gear down, flaps 30 or 40 (as I preselcted in the FMC) and speedbrakes armed before hitting the second AP button? Regards,Lorenzo Chiovaro

Gear is still up at that moment and so are flaps (may be at 1 or 5).
February 12, 201214 yr Ok...so...in this case my deduction came to a ded end! :)Quite frustrating now...but I'm sure I will discover what I'm missing. I'll do another try.Lorenzo
February 12, 201214 yr Author Yeah I'm confused. I just landed in Vegas, plane flared and everything, yet I still had no 2nd AP lit up....so go figure. Edited February 12, 201214 yr by billb1981
February 12, 201214 yr Really? Do you mean that you have done a full autoland with just one AP on? :S
February 12, 201214 yr Wait until G/S is intercepted and the speed window is 'open' (and you can set Vref) and then try to press the 2nd AP again.I agree with Jeroen. I had the same 'problem' until I waited until I was below 2900 feet. Now the second CMD stays lit. If that doesn't work, then you are doing something wrong with your config.Best regards,Jim
February 12, 201214 yr Buttons I press in sequence (correct me if I'm wrong): CMD A turned on -> LOC ON -> LOC captured -> APP ON -> GS CAPTURED -> CMD B ONFlare and Cat III displays at 1500 AGL.ILS is tuned on both channels. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
February 12, 201214 yr I think this procedure is correct. You have to add also that both CRS must be aligned with the runway and both FDs must be on. Right? :)
February 12, 201214 yr Author Ok, dumb question here.....again, I'm just learning the proper ways to start flying, but how can you tell when the LOC is on and captured?
