February 10, 201214 yr Do you PFE user make use of the SIDS/STARS function? I use VoxAtc in FSX and it does a great job with SIDS/STARS but it doesn't work in FS9.
February 10, 201214 yr Do you PFE user make use of the SIDS/STARS function? I use VoxAtc in FSX and it does a great job with SIDS/STARS but it doesn't work in FS9.You should really be asking this on the PFE forum of OnCourse Software - or better still reading existing posts there. The full manual is also available there for download:http://www.ocs-support.co.uk/forums/index.phpIn a nutshell, you can use SIDS and STARS in PFE but it doesn't do any thing special for that.John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
February 11, 201214 yr Author John, Thanks for your response. I've been using PFE for a while now but never really messed around with the SIDS/STARS aspect of it.
February 11, 201214 yr I define them for specific airports that I know will utilize them... For example I always fly into EGLL from the US so chances are if landing back to the West it will be an OCK2F STAR. All PFE does is clear you to fly the appropriate STAR. So when approaching OCK12 I will usually get a cleared to the OCK2F STAR to RWY 27R, contact tower when established. From that point on you are on your own to fly by the charts, establish yourself on final and contact tower to let them know you are established. There are no further instructions once you are cleared to fly the STAR and you now define your altitude by the approach charts as well...Personally, I like to fly by the charts so PFE not vectoring me but clearing me to fly the STAR by the chart is what I am looking for...If you want hand holding and vectors to final I would not use a STAR at all. It is basically defining the point you want PFE to leave you alone until you have established yourself on final :)Hope that helps,-PaulPS>>> Same with SIDS but the reciprocal, if you use a SID PFE will clear you to fly the SID, you fly the procedure by the charts and PFE navigation resumes at the first waypoint after the end of the SID. So when leaving KEWR I will depart RWY 22L, use a PORTT SID which is an immediate left to 200, then a right turn to 290 and then a big circle back to the east and PFE will begin navigation once I get to the first waypoint in my flight after the SID, in this example it would be MERIT. So you get a Cleared to the PORTT Departure @ FLXXX and PFE lets you do what you need to do by the charts until you are back on the flightplan.Hope that makes sense! February 11, 201214 yr Author Paul, It makes perfect sense. Thanks for the detailed explanation. As I said, I use VOXATC when I'm flying in FSX which gives you the appropriate SIDS/STARS but I use PFE in FS9. I'm going to have to start using this part of the program.
February 11, 201214 yr :( Pleasure! Do you also know about and use the designated parking and preferred rwy features in PFE in FS9? Very powerful...In short, you can pull up any airport and assign yourself a designated parking spot you will always be vectored to :) So at EGLL I go to 403 which is where United from KEWR usually docks. You can also pull up specific airports and their runways and assign a B T or L to them for Both, Takeoff only or Landing only and PFE will only use the runway for what you define... This is how I over come the FS9 Afcad limitations and get the DEP/ARR rwy's I prefer and that are being used in r/w. :) it is great, rwy 12/30 is temporarily closed at LLBG, pop into PFE, tell it not to use them and you will get vectored to 8/26 instead as in real life.I like those features very much :(-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
