Scenery Cfg - How Many?

Featured Replies

Perhaps this question has been asked and answered before but I must have missed it. How many "Scenery.cfg" are there in FSX using WIN 7 Ultimate? I have 3 that I am aware of - one in my FSX directory, 1 in "Users/All Users/Microsoft/FSX" directory, and 1 in "Users/My Name/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX" directory. They are not all identical. Can anyone explain how FSX uses all these scenery.cfg files? Thanks

Wilbert

there is another one in C:ProgramDataMicrosoftFSX, this is what FSX use.

You're so right - I forgot about that one. I still would like to know why FSX has so many in different locations and what for. I am sure someone knows the answer.

I'm guessing that the one in the main fsx folder is the default from install. Due to limitations on who can edit files in Program Files (x86) folder ACES decided to move the "active" version to the "users" appdata area so every user account can access and modify it, as well as untrusted install programs. In Vista/Win 7 I think the users appdata was replaced (actually I think a hard link maybe) to the ProgramData folder.IMO it is a problem of Windows, that program settings can be stored in a local app folder, programdata, user appdata, registry, etc. Very inconsistent.scott s..
